Rockets either got to run more uptempo, or the intentional slow down game like the 90's Mike Fratello Cavaliers, keep the game in the 70-80 scoring range. That came to mind earlier. Scola is undersized around the same height and plays tough, though I think Mutombo would been the best match to have the Larry Smith type contribution. Scola is more offensively refined. But Scola has the same warrior spirit.

At least Rockets can use high motion offense more effectively since Yao's out. That's at least one good news in this mess.
All I want is Ron to pulverize Kobe with a hard foul and tell him to meet him outside the TC parking lot. Seriously, I hope the guys play loose and come out with all guns blazing. AB is the key now, he needs to use that blazing speed with lots of picks and roll to generate points. In the half court, Artest and Scola will have to share post up duties.
Even JVG would do this...there is no other choice. I'm proud of our guys this year and still am looking forward to the game on an inspirational level.
Well there is no reason not to play that James White kid now. Put cook in to draw Gasol and / or Odom out from the paint and lets go.
you do realize thats a whole new style of play and it takes much longer than one day to implement a whole new style of offense...
lol, running against the lakers is pretty much suicide, as they're one of the best fast break teams. but if it makes the game entertaining, yeah why not?
It is counter-intuitive, since the Lakers are a better running team, but it's our best chance, since we don't have the folks who can create shots in the halfcourt game. So, I'm with DaDakota -- just call me BoBob. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Bp-ihtgzdE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Bp-ihtgzdE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I'd say this is an opportunity to start Wafer. Brooks, Wafer, Battier, Artest, Scola with Landry, Lowry, Hayes, Barry, White, and Cook ready to come in and put up shots and/or play defense! Brooks, Lowry, and Wafer will have to play out of their minds to give us a chance. The problem is that they have to do this while keeping their heads about them. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we make a game out if it and have a chance to steal it at the end. Too bad that Kobe guy might be the one with the ball in his hands at winning time.
i am actually excited to watch today's game, i mean... even if yao plays, we all know he'll be fronted, and his touches will be limited, and we'll be frustrated with our guards not making successful passes to yao this way, we can avoid the frustration, and have the team yield their energy into playing their game, and not see 35 minutes of brooks/yao fail
If we can steal this game.. and reorganize our offense and tempo for Game 6, I still like our chances..
I like the positive tone of this thread and I think as bad as losing Yao is there is a potential upside that the second unit has run Adelman's princeton style offense much better than the first unit. I don't think we will see a total run and gun game plan but we will see a lot of movement from the offense. That players like Scola thrive on. Also consider in game 2 when Yao was largely saddled with fouls we played well without him on the floor and even took the lead for awhile. The Rockets are down but far from out!
