One of Nancy Pelosi's floor whips has come out against he bill. He will vote no.

Looks like tough sledding for the Dems the rest of the way....

[RQUOTER]Stephen Lynch calls health care vote plan ‘disingenuous’
Says procedural move would hurt Congress

Even one of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s floor whips, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, says a proposed parliamentary move to pass health-care reform would be “disingenuous” and harm the credibility of Congress.

In a sign of how tough it’s been for Pelosi to round up votes for the massive bill, Lynch - a South Boston Democrat who supported a House reform package last year - said he’ll probably vote against a key Senate version of the legislation, unless unexpected major changes are made soon.

Lynch, who serves as one of Pelosi’s key vote counters, said he also can’t support a proposed “deem and pass” procedure that would allow Democrats to vote to strip out controversial portions of the Senate bill and then “deem” that the entire package has passed without a second, direct vote.

“It’s disingenuous,” said Lynch, who considers unfair a Senate provision to tack a surcharge on higher-end health plans. “It would really call into question the credibility of the House.”

When the vote is taken, there will be group of Dems that wait until the last moment. Pelosi will have a number of them if she needs them. If the vote hits 216-217, they'll be released. If it's tight, there will be enough that come through to push it over.

    This will pass.

My guess is he ultimately ends up a yes after meeting with Obama this afternoon and House leadership later. He'll say that he has the assurances he needs that the reforms he wants will be provided at a later date.

Again, I can only assume from your responses that you now agree an up or down vote is needed to pass this legislation.

My advice is for you to stay out of D&D then.

And yes, I will admit that I am excited that democrats are about to pass the most sweeping piece of legislation in generations. The party of NO has done everything it can; including convincing a bunch of clueless rubes such as youself, that somehow this is bad for America. But we all know the real reason people like you and Jorge are against this bill and it isn't because you have any fundamental reason. Just hate.

Three more 'no' votes in November switch to 'yes' today.

To the individual posting as MojoMan:

I enjoy the alternate reality PBP of the bill. It will make the can of tears taste sweeter in the end if we are fortunate enough to get it passed, an unlikely event according to you.

Dems defeat a second attempt to kill deem and pass

Just now, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) offered a resolution to disapprove of the Democratic leadership for using the "Slaughter Solution," as the resolution called it, with a lot of strong language calling the procedure a dishonest attempt to shield members from accountability, and that would damage the House's reputation.

This resolution was then tabled -- that is, set aside and effectively killed -- by an even stronger margin of 232-181.

I saw this on reddit today. The more the things change, the more the wingnuts stay the same. Notice the reoccuring paranoid delusions about communist conspiracies and plots to weaken America by a secret fifth column. Change a few words, (for instance, replace "mental hygiene" with "death panels") and you can reconfigure it for today's particular flavor of health care paranoia.

    <img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a1/Unholy_three.png" width=50% height=50%>

When you wingers read this and (hopefuly) understand how crazy it sounds, you should understand that in 50 to 100 years, your "Communist health care takeover" paranoia will sound just as crazy.

I don't see that much has changed.

People still complain about vaccines, there's a still some anti-flouridites out there, and wingnuts are convinced that Obama has everyone but them brainwashed.
