Nuns Urge Congress To Pass Health Care Reform

A group of Catholic nuns has written a letter, sent to every member of Congress, urging them to pass health care reform. The support is a rare break from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which has publicly opposed the bill over its abortion language.

The nuns, who are the heads of organizations representing a total of 59,000 Catholic sisters, wrote, in part, that the Senate bill will "make historic new investments -- $250 million -- in support of pregnant women. This is the REAL pro-life stance, and we as Catholics are all for it."

I agree with Ornstein's political analysis, but there's clearly not time between now and November to see healthcare reform get in motion, so we'll still just be running around on the fumes of hyperbolic rhetoric. Bachman Turnip Overdriven Thyroid is right that it's smart politics, (if you have a one party uber alles view anyway.)

Gee, if I had realized Russian was merely the reversal or slight change of English letters, I would have picked it for my undergrad language instead of that pesky German with those ornate letters.

By the way, did you complain about the MoveOn non-ad comparing W to Hitler?

Yeah, I actually had more respect for the Jorge version of that individual.

That graphic is disgusting in its celebration of hate and ignorance. May these people reap what they sow.

Yes, passing healthcare reform so uninsured folks can get proper healthcare is totally like being a Nazi and ordering genocide on thousands of Jews.

Yes, passing healthcare reform so uninsured folks can get proper healthcare is totally like whatever atrocious things Lennin did (Red Terror, executions, etc.).

I cannot believe people actually believe crap like that. I am not going to beat around the bush, here. If you believe what Obama is doing is similar to Hitler/Lennin, you are a complete and utter idiot. There is no better word to describe you.

Good post, but what you fail to understand is that it is not really about health care. If we weren't considering health care, it would be something else that would draw the Hitler/Lenin comparisons and the Socialist/Communist/Dictator namecalling.

These are the people who would have been called Tories in the first days of our country and nothing has really changed for them over the last 230 years.

At least you have to give some irony points for using the terms "fearful and naive" from those who use fear and misinformation as their political left hand and right hand.

Obama and the Democratic leaders in Congress are unapologetically try to ram trough a leftist agenda that smacks of socialism in many ways. Obama is not personally "like Hitler". Nor is he personally "like Marx". But the way he has used the current financial crisis as a platform from which to impose his leftist vision of what this country should become is frighteningly similar to the ram-it-through approach used by the big names socialist "reformers" of old.

Disgusting is a very good word to describe what Obama and the Democrats are attempting to do up in Washington right this minute as they try to ram through their far left health care sector takeover bill. This is a dangerous and frightening time for our country, and if the health care bill that is being considered by the House of Representative is defeated, we might very well have seen the tide turn on Obama's agenda. And it would be hard to exaggerate how excellent that news would be for our country.

The Democrats have been campaigning on Healthcare since 07, when there was full employment. TARP was passed under a bipartisan effort in Sept 08. please stay with the facts.

I know, and all of those would get the same criticism from me:

How in the bloody hell do you compare <Obama-sanctioned Bill/action/thought> to the genocide of thousands of Jews?

Before I saw crap like that, I didn't know people that ignorant actually existed in this country. Like I said, growing cynicism.

"Without voting at all" is incorrect based on my understanding. They are voting. If they vote to pass the bill with the fixes, then that means they are voting for the Senate bill along with it. Also, apparently there are House rules to allow this type of procedure just like the Senate rules allow the filibuster. Following or breaking the rules isn't the question here.

There is a difference in that the filibuster is meant to actually affect what legislation gets passed, whereas deem-and-pass theoretically doesn't affect whether the bill is passed or not. The Republicans' clamoring for an up and down vote here is different than what the filibuster prevents. This is going to be voted on either way, the Republicans are just saying it should be voted on directly so they can point to it in their campaigns as if it means something different than voting indirectly on the same things. When they filibuster they are saying that they don't want it to pass. Maybe that's what you were saying, too, justtxyank.

Please. That's why we've been at this for over a year now.

Reconciliation? Used to ram through W's Agenda. Where was the outrage then?

Deem and Pass? Where was the outrage when Repubs used it a third of the time on Bills with Rules? I bet you hadn't heard of it until this week.

Yes. Pushing the country gradually towards some common-sense energy savings, providing more and better health care for more people, and trying to stave off a Republican created Depression are just like Lenin shutting down the opposition press or Hitler declaring the Nazis the official party of Germany. Frighteningly similar... but only to a scared child.

(Hitler wasn't Socialist and in fact, one of the first things he did was to weaken and then ban the Socialist party in Germany. So, your confusing comparison of the revolutionary Lenin (picture) and the theorist Marx (the above passage) to Hitler shows your ignorance of world history and politics... and your politically driven comparison of all three to Obama shows intentional idiocy on your part.)
