So, just to clarify, were you opposed to the health care system we've have in this country for the last many decades where others did have to pay for your care?

not if i don't carry insurance. again w/ the previous analogy, insurance rates are higher for drivers that have tickets, DUIs, etc, or non-existent for those who don't drive. in this instance, batman pays no penalty for being a smoker, yet i pay higher taxes to "indulge" his habit. does that seem equitable?

You do? Show me where your taxes are upped.

By the same token if a person doesn't carry insurance but still has to go to the emergency room, my insurance premiums go up, even though I wasn't the one who elected to not carry insurance.

Or even furthermore because someone elected to not carry insurance and use preventative health care options, later gets sick because of something that could have been prevented but joins their companies insurance plan, I'm screwed again because my rates go up.

I would rather they have been covered from the beginning so they are paying just like me, all along.

Ummm, if you pay taxes, you sure as hell do subsidize that HIV person.

Perhaps your biggest problem is that not only do you not understand the new system, but you don't even understand the system you've been under for your whole life.

P.S. - if you really don't like the individual mandate, states can opt out of it and set up their own system. You're more than welcome to move to one of those states and not have to worry about the mandate.

The smoker pays a tax on his or her cigarettes that goes to the health care system already.

Kudos to you basso. I've seen lots of similar comments, but most are aimed at fatties or drunks. Only a few wingnuts came out and said what they are really thinking... they don't want to be lumped with homo AIDS people in any way, shape, or form because everyone knows that Repubs are responsible, grown-up people and always use condoms before same-sex sex. So, congrats on having the courage to come out and express your fears. And you get extra credit for trying to couch it with an "if I were" reference instead of the usual "them homos" I've seen.... and super extra credit for phrasing it from a hetero point of view. Plus, it must be therapeutic for you in some way. So again, good job.

You will have to pay an additional 0.5% payroll tax on any dollar you make over $250,000 if you file a joint return and $200,000 if you file an individual return. (Section 9015).

That amount will rise to a 3.8% tax if reconciliation passes. It will also apply to investment income, estates, and trusts. (Section 1402).

Granted I took those from an article and have not read the bill so I don't know if those provisions are still in those sections, but these were taken from the House bill (HR 3590 the article says) and the agreed upon reconciled bill. Here's the article if you want to check for yourself:

I wasn't aware that basso made over 250K. Since only a tiny minority of Americans make that I was presuming he wouldn't be paying the extra tax. I'm just glad that measures like the ones you referenced above are included to responsibly pay for the bill.

perhaps you need to be educated on hoe HIV can be transmitted, and why there's an epidemic in Africa- it ain't from gay sex. or you could just ask magic johnson how he "attained" hiv.

He wasn't claiming that HIV is only from gay sex. He was talking about the general rhetoric and fears from your ilk.

So it's finally done and we can move on to other issues like the economy, financial reform, immigration, education reform, etc.
