Do you at least realize why the requirement is there? It's not because the socialists want to control you, but it's to force insurance companies to cover those with pre-existing conditions. Do you think insurance companies should not cover those folks? If so, how do you (or any Republican) propose to do it without first requiring people to have health insurance?

If we told insurance companies to cover those with pre-existing conditions, but didn't force people to get health insurance, there would be nothing stopping a person from not having health insurance until they got sick, get a quick policy, fix their sickness, and cancel once again. Obviously, this is not a good solution.

Your example falls flat when you know that tobacco consumption is one of the criteria that allows an insurance company to charge higher premiums.

And then when you get lung cancer from smoking, the insurance company drops you because you mis-reported your habits.

    Isn't that awesome?

Yes, that is the case where insurance companies would still be allowed to drop you under the new law, fraud.

But you did pay taxes. Meaning you were already subsidizing these people.

And we were liable if you had any injuries / illnesses you couldn't afford. We didn't have the option to not subsidize you then either.

why should an insurance company be required to provide coverage to a smoker? smoking is elective behavior- coverage/care should be as well.

If the person pays the premium for their risk factors, it won't matter. Actuarial tables know all.

Because when the smoker gets sick with or without insurance somebody will have to pay. Without insurance we all pay. With insurance at least they've paying premiums etc.

heh: John Barrasso just proposed an amendment that says if health insurance premiums go up, then OC is automatically repealed - because The Won promised they (premiums) would not rise.

Did Obama promise that no premiums would rise? I hadn't seen that.

Until I see it from a more reliable source than you, I won't actually put any stock in it.

Of course he didn't - basso never has and still has no idea what he's talking about. He just quotes other lunatics and assumes they must be right.

They take 1 x-ray of your lung and they know.
I read that it still shows 3-5 years after you quit if you had smoked for a while.
