Interesting. That may be the right quote, but the original wrong quote is the only one that makes sense. The Civil Rights Act was the overwhelming reason politics realigned into roughly what we have now. Nixon didn't devise the Southern Strategy to take advantage of people's response to Head Start.

I'm glad Newt had the good sence to correct them on that. I didn't think he would be that stupid to make such a statement

however, the democrats did change the face of politics after the passage of civil rights legislation eventually becoming the republican party that we know today.

    edit: dammit rimrocker

your desperation to paint the tea partiers as racists is palpable.

Would you like to see a video?

Here's a nice video of teabaggers opposing healthcare reform by assaulting a man who claims to have Parkinson's.

    "No more handouts!" - awesome.

I find it amusing that Michael Steele now says that Republicans are not Americans...

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/23/us/politics/23repubs.html?hp

“There is no downside for Republicans,” Michael Steele, the Republican National Committee chairman, said Monday in an interview. “Only for Americans.”

you made a specific charge about civil rights pioneers- do you have video evidence to back up your claim?

Do you believe that the civil rights hero, and others who were there are lying?

I haven't even see anyone deny the claim.

    You should respect your betters.

You have made two claims in this thread and posted no video evidence.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I love this part of the bill.

    http://blogs.chron.com/momhouston/2010/03/calorie_policy_tucked_into_the_1.html

Now that the health care bill has passed, I'm sure we'll be finding out more about what it entails and what its consequences will be. Today I was surprised to learn that one of the requirements the bill contains is that restaurants will have to include calorie counts on menus. From the Associated Press:

That Caesar salad you're about to eat? It's 800 calories, and that's without the croutons. The fettuccine alfredo? A whopping 1,220 calories. You may choose to ignore the numbers, but soon it's going to be tough to deny you saw them.

A requirement tucked into the nation's massive health care bill will make calorie counts impossible for thousands of restaurants to hide and difficult for consumers to ignore. More than 200,000 fast food and other chain restaurants will have to include calorie counts on menus, menu boards and even drive-throughs.

The new law, which applies to any restaurant with 20 or more locations, directs the Food and Drug Administration to create a new national standard for menu labeling, superseding a growing number of state and city laws. President Barack Obama signed the health care legislation Tuesday.

Does knowing that a Caesar salad has 800 calories or that fettuccine alfredo has 1,220 calories make you more or less likely to eat it? Cause they both sound delicious to me.

I hope they don't just put calories there without a breakdown of the macro nutrients.
