This is a new form of tax. With a deduction, if you do something you get the benefit of paying less taxes. This is a penalty if you do nothing. This gives the government extraordinary new power. You pay a tax if you don't give money to a private corporation! There should be outrage on both sides of the aisle. I'm realizing that most people are just too stupid to see the long term harm of this ruling.
Allow me to retort! Some people are too stupid to realize what a great ruling this is. They will be detris on the margins of history.
Most people realize. Obamacare is very unpopular. You are just on a message board full of young, left leaning, knuckles.
People should be able to choose freely to get sick get ruined financially and die, like a certain Ron Paul adviser.
Romney will have a strong position to dethrone The Twice since Obamacare was passed in a conservative court. Oh wait, my bad totally forgot about Romneycare -- oops... looks like repubs struck out twice on this issue.
I wish more people "got it". Using the commerce clause would have been horrible. It would have been a clear overreach. However this is much worse. Roberts has created a way to tax people out of thin air for not complying with the whims of government.
And some people are ignorant jackasses. What's your point? You support denying medical insurance to children with preexisting conditions? You support lifetime limits on health care? Bottom line is that the health of our people directly contributes to the productivity of our society. Health care should not be an industry upon which the well being of our citizens is traded, bought and sold. During the time of our country's founding the most expensive medical procedure was likely a bucket full of leaches. If the costs were identical during that time then I assure you the founding fathers would have addressed this issue in much the same way the Iron Chancellor did when he implemented the first commonly accepted universal health care system. The irony of you jumping up and down like a child screaming that people want something for nothing is that this reform is designed, in part, to address exactly that issue. You are paying for the uninsured now. What this law does, among other excellent reforms, is require everyone to pay their fair share so that everyone may benefit. It's what Jesus would do. Jackass.
It seems to me the government already could tax people for whatever they wanted, and this is nothing new. I suppose I didn't get it.
sure is a lot of teeth grinding going on in this thread. Anybody see Bigtexxx today? BBBWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the 35 year-old guy I know who chooses not to work but rather live at his parents will pay the same as me?
