not really finding too many funny things...Dont have an energy efficient home...no worries...there'll be a tax for that...Drive a truck that may be "less gas efficient"...no worries...you can pay a tax for that...The feds have been blessed with new far reaching powers...and they can always use this ruling as precedence...
When the full opinion comes out, it is probable clearer limits will be set. The conservative justices have a tendancy to always enumerate limits to how far federal power can reach even when they rule on the side of the federal government. Roberts is a smart cookie, I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing when he was horse-trading with the liberal justices.
We should follow what China does, if you do not have insurance and you don't have money upfront, you will get no treatment in hospitals, yes that will be so much better. What don't you understand about the concept of insurance? So healthy young people should not pay for it right? By that logic they should not be covered when they grow old and weak as well.
Guys, if you can think about it, a Supreme Court justice who spent upwards of weeks studying the issue can too.
All i am saying is that over time, hard working people will be asked to carry an even bigger burden... I am all about having insurance for every one in the US...i think its a necessity...but the bottom line is who is paying for it...and as you will see in the next ten years after the law really takes affect...things will look much more bleak in the health care industry...
Full opinion is out, Roberts' was 59 pages. You don't think he set clear limits on the power he bestowed el diablo federales? http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/slipopinions.aspx
Let the right have their say, just make sure working class Americans remember what they said, because they know, we know, the insurance companies know that this is a huge victory for the working class, and we're going to see a lot of voters who were tricked into opposing this become life long Democrats after they realize the GOP had hoodwinked them.
Why was Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid even created...thats right for the government to assist Americans in care when they become sick, destitute or just age... But as you can see...Medicare patients complain that costs are still too high, Medicaid patients get some of the worst care in medicine...These are government organizations that were created to assist americans to get back on their feet...not to get by on...but as people have grown accustomed to getting things free...Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are in shambles...and you want to put even more money...this is ridiculous
Yes, the country was so much better off before medicare and medicaid and social security. We definitely needs to return to those good old days.
Smack dab in like the first page of the opinion. So, I'm pretty sure seperation of powers and a reasonable degree of federal power is covered.
And as the justices have made clear...there is no way to enforce a penalty...at least not yet...states wont be penalized for gross negligance of the law in the form of loss of medicare dollars...
Such great news! Roberts surprised me. This was a victory for the American people, and President Obama.
And there you have it, for people who thought the Federal government got Skynet level powers because they spent all of three seconds thinking about the issue, and a Harvard alumni Supreme Court justice spent weeks.
but people back then werent looking for free hand outs...if people didn't have a place to stay...they wouldn't go get a TV... Have you ever noticed that some of the people on government welfare can magically own phones and cant afford to pay bills...that is sick...
I guess the interesting question now becomes, if this is a tax, is the Supreme Court dictating to Congress that they must somehow make changes to IRC? And what happens if they don't (we are looking at a dramatically different Congress now)? Sam probably has better insight into that question, but are all federal taxes enacted through the IRC? How will this play into deductions and such? This is why compromise opinions can be so annoying.
LOL WUT? I'm not sure that says what you think it does. I'm still reading the opinion, but your post doesn't mean a thing about what I'm talking about.
