I think him and elie would be a better assistant coaches for this team.

Any chances the rockets could hire him or would he try to get a head coach job?

You probably like them just because they're former Rockets. ;)

Brooks is likely taking the year off and Elie already has a NBA coaching job.

But really, what gives you the idea Brooks is a better assistant than Finch, Bickerstaff, Buckner or Dunn?

Brooks never should have gotten the extension in 2012. I haven't been impressed with his coaching abilities. He'll also be overpriced. No thanks.

I think this is a big reason why one would think that.

I think he would be a good addition to the staff. I think someone said he had a lot of teams interested in his services. But if a lottery team was looking for a new head coach they probably would have hired him before Draft and Free Agency.

He can be our Wade Phillips in a sense. He could come here, contribute to a special team, then become a Head Coach somewhere else.

Would this help our chase for Durant?

    Wait for one more year.

McHale loves iso-ball and no one knows and runs Kevin Durant iso-ball better than Scott Brooks.

Although, I wouldn't keep my hopes too high. Brooks has not forgiven Houston rockets ever since he was traded after the first championship.

Hire Scott Brooks to lure Kevin Durant!

If Durant's decision to come to Houston or not hinges on bringing in Scott Brooks, well....

On second thought, you may be onto something.

    Wizards hired Durant's HS coach
Knicks hired a coach who is "Durant's guy"

    WHAT IS HOUSTON WAITING FOR?

    HIRE SCOTT BROOKS IMMEDIATELY!
HIRE SCOTT BROOKS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

If the coach is such a deciding factor for KD next year,

among Billy Donovan, McHale+Scott Brooks and Randy Wittman,

you really think we will have a better chance than OKC? Or the Wiz would even brother to call him at all?

I'd be shocked if KD wanted to play for Brooks. I would actually think it would hurt Houston's chances of luring KD here. KD already had Brooks!

I thought the whole reason we kept McHale was to lure free agents... lord knows it ain't for his coaching ability... ;)

The way we play doesn't demand to have a lot of coaches.

Only thing Scott Brooks was good at was player development which is also what Mchale is good at.

What about Cuttino as a coach? He could be good.

i'd rather mario elie. played for don nelson, rick adelman, rudy T, and pop. coached under pop and carlisle. he's been around great basketball.

sam cassell is another one. played for Rudy T, Karl, Flip, and Doc. coached under Flip and Doc.

whenever the mchale era ends, i hope either mario or sam becomes the successor.

I can't really see how any average fan could have any insights into how good an assistant coach is. We can at least see the players play, so that is a basis for some opinions. I have no idea what contributions various assistant coaches make, unless the media calls it out for some reason. That is pretty rare. Elie, Buckner, whoever - these guys could be proactive geniuses or lazy idiots. On what basis can any of us conclude?

Fact: Scott has been further in the NBA as coach than McHale

Further proof that coaching continues to be vastly over rated.

    Talent trumps all.
