Yep. Just as they did to us last year, once without AJ, the other without Schaub. A win is a win - no one should apologize for catching a break.
I never asked for an apology. You're right and I hope we win. However, just don't turnaround and try to use it as a win against great teams.
Why does that even matter? There are no style points in the Nfl. You sound like a Titans fans disguising himself as a houstonian.
Gosh, that's a real shame.... Wake me up when they're forced to use their 3rd string QB for the last 6 games of the season + playoffs.
That's your domain; I couldn't give two flips who they play. We see it every weekend in the NFL: there are no guarantees. Bottom line: if they beat a fully healthy Baltimore team or a team that is hurriedly assembled from a nearby YMCA because the Ravens' charter accidently flies the team to North China, they'll still have a 2-game lead* over every other team in the conference. You can measure their greatness when it gets tested in January. For now, their standard is wins, and as of this morning, only one NFL team has more. * assuming San Diego loses tonight
you keep insinuating we're not a great team because we haven't beaten anybody. Can you name me 3 AFC teams you'd rather be right now than the Texans?
If the Chargers lose tonight, there'll be 2 - two! - teams in the conference with a winning record; 14 would not. If you extend is out to the NFL, 9 teams (again, assuming a SD loss) have a winning record; 23 do not. There's a near 75% chance that, on any given Sunday, you're going to play a team without a winning record. This idea that the Texans are the only team in the league to fatten up on lightweights is regoshdarndiculous.
Haha, I'm not saying we should pity them. They had no pity for us when we marched Yates out last year in the playoffs. This is the NFL, and as we Texans fan know, the games don't stop just because your team isn't 100%. And yeah, I'm not trading the Texans spot in the AFC for a single other team right now. Elite or not makes little to no difference in week 6. Championships are not won at this point in the season, but the placings sure can be set for a spot at the head of the table. The only thing that needs to be going through that locker room is an uninhibited determination to win this coming Sunday.
With the Broncos' victory last night, every non-Maryland/Texas-based team in the AFC is 3-3, or worse, meaning the Texans have at least a 2-game lead on every team in the conference (including a 3-game lead on Denver, Miami and New York, all 3-3 teams the Texans have beaten). Beat Baltimore and they'll join the other 14 teams 2 games back of the Texans. Huge game this weekend. Huge. Huge. HUGE.
With Denver & San Diego off, the *other* big AFC game this week is NY/NE. We need to root like heck-fire for the Jets. If they win (and if we win), we'd own a three game lead over the AFC East (minus Buffalo but we'll take care of them in two weeks), a huge advantage for the final 9 weeks. In terms of seeding, the Pats are very dangerous. The only two remotely good opponents left on their schedule are us and SF, both of which they get at home. Otherwise, the play NY and Miami twice. It's possible they could go 8-0 around Hou/SF. 8-2 puts them at 11-5. Baltimore, now depleted with injuries, still have the Steelers twice, and road games against the Chargers, Redskins plus the Broncos and Giants at home. That's by far the toughest remaining schedule among the likely top three AFC teams. If we beat them... they're going to have to play extremely well to win 10+ games, IMO. I don't know if you can find 6 wins among their final 9 after us. A win against Baltimore and the Texans probably need only to go 5-4 down the stretch to finish in the top 2, and 6-3 (very doable) likely gets them #1; it all but guarantees them #1 if one of those 6 wins is at NE.
Unfortunately, the Jets let one get away. Had they won, we would have owned a victory against every division leader in the AFC (Baltimore, New York, Denver). As is, our conference lead is 2 over Baltimore and New England; 2.5 over Pittsburgh, San Diego and Indianapolis (!), and 3, or better, over every other AFC team. We hold the tie-breaker with the Jets, Dolphins, Ravens and Broncos. If we beat New England (which would put us at 7 wins), we could go very easily go 4-4 and still very likely have the #1 seed. The Pats are the only (likely) remaining AFC team we play with playoff potential. The Colts are intriguing. They play us (twice), NE and Detroit. Otherwise: Tennessee twice, Jacksonville, Miami, Buffalo and Kansas City. I think they'll be lucky to finish 8-8 with that schedule - which would be amazing, frankly. But if they surprise us twice....
This. I'm stunned at the lack of respect given to them. They're a very interesting team that seems to be improving with each week. I hope we have things salted away by Week 17, because that last one makes me very nervous...
The good news: our first meeting is here. Even if they're a legitimate sneaky good team, we should d-stomp them at Reliant and end any chance of them being a factor in our division. But 8 wins might get you a playoff spot in the AFC this year. And they should be a favorite in 6 of their remaining 9 games. Nine wins is very possible. Bigger picture: it's absolutely and totally unfair that Indy isn't going to suffer with a longer post-Manning dip. They could be a legitimate playoff contender as early as next year. Considering our franchise's beginning coincided with PePe's prime dominance, that's just uncool. We've earned a 5-year period of Colt suckage. Earned it!
Great win last night, but man....after Pittsburgh wins tonight, that will mean that every AFC team over .500 won this weekend. We got absolutely NO help from any of the bottom-dwellers. I was hoping Buffalo would pull off a miracle while watching that last drive, but I KNEW it would end like that. Thanks a lot, bills... At the same time, watching that game makes me a lot less concerned about the patriots next month. They look absolutely beatable this year.
It's so frustrating when you're rooting for NE or BAL or DEN to get upset... Inevitably the opposing team makes some boneheaded mistake to give the game away. BAL had that happen against KC several weeks ago, and NE got lucky against BUF this week.
Who to root for in the Indy vs. NE game? NE is probably a bigger threat to us as the #1 seed than Indy is to us for the division championship but we also just have 2 game lead over Indy with 2 to play vs them.
Honestly the teams that might be the worst matchups in the playoffs are the Colts, Broncos, and Steelers. They're playing incredible football right now and have momentum on their side.
