Thank you for this, that's interesting to know. Those WB qualities are definitely admirable. He does have a star quality in getting to the rim and even kicking it out, there's no doubt about that and you can build a career around that. His 3pt mechanics look really really bad to me but at his age and if as you say his work ethic is up there, I'm sure he can fix that. Has the potential to be an elite NBA player if he's a hard worker off the court.
I’ve drawn similar conclusions - I’m right there with you on all accounts. I think Scoot is going to be an ‘all timer’ and can be a clear #1 guy. He is just too gifted and built too much like a guy who will obsessively work on his weaknesses unlike other gifted players who lack motivation. I love that he sees the pass and holds on to the ball a little longer to get not just a good look - but one of those WIDE OPEN looks where the defense doesn’t even bother to contest. That’s the thing the CP3/Nash/Lukas of the world do - watching plays unfold and orchestrating to turn advantages even greater - it’s really next level and he does it A LOT. His game would unlock the best version of Jabari, would make our backcourt unguardable because how do you stay in front of him AND Green, and would bring structure and intensity to a team sorely lacking in both. I would try to sell KPJ on a 6th man role and if he doesn’t conform, trade him for a 3and D upgrade at the SF…this team could be scary good with Scoot, Green, Jabari, and Sengun and either a situational play of KPJ or some vet SF to be named later if Eason doesn’t grow into the role.
I seem to recall in an interview that he talks about Westbrook's aggressiveness as something he wants to pattern his game on but I believe he also spoke about other far less explosive players he wants to pattern his game around as well. He seems fairly cerebral at understanding every player has strengths and weaknesses and being mindful about what specifically you are trying to model. Just being mindful in that way, is significant. He seems like a film study junky - even for non marquee players. It's one thing for a young kid to watch exciting players and try to model/fanboy their game around them...quite another when you are studying not exciting guys like Andre Miller and trying to figure out how they create advantages on the court.... I get your hesitation though. I similarly was not particularly into Scoot until I started watching lots of interviews with him and realize he is cut a little bit differently than what his all world athleticism would suggest.
While that's encouraging, it's still a super small sample....but I'm not going to lie, seeing him hit a few has made me okay with him being the pick if we're at #2. A lineup of Sengun Smith KPJ Green Henderson could be pretty interesting in a few years.
no. the situation I was reffering to is if we get the #3 or whatever pick to select Thompson. The lineup would look like this KPJ Green Thompson Smith Sengun Warriors used Draymond and Looney for a long time and it worked just fine. You can have 2 non-shooting bigs if one is the main facilitator, which would be Sengun. Thompson would be like Aaron Gordon which is a perfect fit next to Jokic. A system we should build around Sengun should we not draft Scoot or Wemby.
How big of a drop is there after Wemby and Scoot? I fear we might not get a top 2 pick because the NBA will rig it
You are still going to get a very very good player. Right now, my two favorites. Amen Thompson at 3 is a very tall PG with unreal athleticism. He outside shooting is a weakness, but he will wow you with his athleticism. Brandon Miller at 4 is a very tall SF sharpshooter. Can score the hell out of the ball. Shades of Paul George. There are some other guys who could end up as really good players, Whitmore, Smith Jr, Ausar, but the fit is questionable. There is a guy projected around 8th, Cason Wallace who is a PG with monster defensively and shooting. Very nice consolation prize.
Just saw a picture of Scoot that went viral. He has more muscle definition than all of our centers and power forwards combined.
What about Cason Wallace? He has obviously less potential but fits better the defensive PG mold we're needing. Yeah, Scoot can play 1on1 D if he wants, but that doesn't make him an elite defensive PG (not even a very good defender) like Cason could be.
For 18 years old and in year two on the Ignite, he's far ahead of most rookies. He'll plug into any team and compete from day one.
Scoot is still just 18. In a division with Luka, Ja and Zion, I would love to have a potential phenom like this on our side. His combination of elite speed, strength and athleticism will make him a nightmare to guard. His court vision and passing ability are under rated. He has huge hands and a 6'9 to 6'10 wingspan. He would make all of this losing worth it. Best pg prospect to come along in years. Well deserving of all the hype he is receiving.
