Here is a PG stats from the Gleague as well, when they were 18/19 https://stats.gleague.nba.com/player/1630227/ 34mpg 20.6ppg 47.9%FG 39.5% 3pt 5.9 Rb 7.6 Apg 3.4 TO 2.21 Assist to Turnover ratio 122.5 OFFrtg 105.2 Def rtg Those are WAY better than Henderson at the same age......and whose stats are those? DAISHEN NIX !!!!! Why do people think Henderson will be great, when Nix was better than him in the Gleague at the same age? RIght now he looks more like Ish Smith than CP3 DD
It is very concerning given that the Rockets have almost zero margin for mistakes.... If Wemby or Scoot don't work out in this environment then there is not much one can do except firing everyone behind the scenes and starting from scratch.
Lol if Wemby or scoot aren’t great. The rockets have the cap space to sign better players. They’re jsut not doin that right now, but after this draft I’m pretty sure they’ll start trying sign or trad for better pieces
Never said that, said that he is a couple more years away from being whatever he will be, and there is no guarantee he Won't bust. DD
Wemby's scoring efficiency in a lesser league is concerning. His shot selection is atrocious for a 7'5" dude. It's correctable though... under the right coaching and training staff. Ya we might be in trouble if some significant changes up top don't happen.
Lebron is the lone exception i think. No one thought he would bust. His floor was all-nba type player.
It has changed, players that were drafted used to come into the NBA with solid fundamentals and ready to contribute. Now all these 19 year old AAU kids who never went to college are coming in and lack fundamental understanding of defense, offense and just how to play. We used to draft players that were ready - now we are drafting players that in 2 or 3 years MIGHT be ready......drafting Henderson just kicks the can down the road. RIGHT NOW, KPJ is a better option at PG than Scoot he is 2 years further down that road......doesn't mean KPJ is a good PG, he is just a better NBA player now. I don't want to go BACKWARDS from where we are, I want to go FORWARDS....find players like Murray instead of Jabari.......guys who may not have as high a ceiling by are NBA ready. I think TyTy is a better option at PG for this team than Henderson......give me NBA players now....no more kids...other than Wemby. DD
https://www.basketballforum.com/threads/lebron-james-will-be-a-bust.771/ Yes they did. And further, Lebron James was not a dominant NBA player his first few years. Heralded, spectacular? Yes. Probably his 5th or 6th season is when he leveled up and became the unstoppable force we know now. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jamesle01.html
Those stats don’t cover all his g-league games this year. He’s shooting 37% from 3. the stats you’re showing leave out the G-League winter tournament games that are the most competitive for scouting. The tourney is called the G-League Showcase between all the teams, where he was pretty dominant. Those games in Nov/Dec are not part of the Regular Season stats, but it’s the same competition, in a tourney format to showcase the players early for NBA scouts.
Guy this post is a mess. It used to be this way in the past but now it's not. You want players right now. You want to move forward. Which is it? Players used to be required to play college or international ball for years, of course a 23 year old has a better grasp on his ability than a 18 year old. RIGHT NOW Murray would be struggling for shots because of the situation he would be in on this team. The city, the owner, whoever weren't willing to give Harden any more shots at a title. The idea that title runs aren't precious is actually infuriating, when "right now" wasn't good enough. Now you all can't sit still long enough to develop for the future? You want it right now. Simmer down Veruca. Keep living in the past, at least we had a championship or two. On the back of a guy who got to develop in college, spent 10 seasons dominating the NBA before we got those chips but hey, **** Jalen and Jabari amirite?
In his second season at ages 19-20, LeBron put up 27 PPG, 7 APG, 7+ RPG, was 6th in PER, 4th in Win Shares, 2nd in +/-, and 2nd in VOR. That seems like a dominant NBA player to me. Also, that thread and others like it were made before many people had the opportunity to see him play. He was mostly a mythological creature at that point. Even so, there's a lot of qualifiers in those posts. As I recall, the question was not whether LeBron would be good but whether you should draft him before Carmelo as Carmelo had just won an NCAA championship and we were at the tail end of a major run of players winning the NBA championship who had also played in the NCAA finals--from 1980 through 2000, there were 18 NBA championships won by teams led by players with NCAA Finals experience: Magic, Bird, Zeke, Jordan, Dream.
Y’all watch Scoot’s games (aside from the playing through injury games) before passing judgement. It’s pretty clear he is several cuts above all but the most elite. Don’t read a stat line and think Nix. He’s a young guy and his shot from deep needs some help (he has a good mid range game)but he doesn’t have bad form - he just has to slow down. He’s sort of a Russel Westbrook or Derrick Rose speed/strength/explosion guy but who actually looks to pass and set guys up…also as others have said - it’s clear from interviews he is a detail oriented guy who takes it seriously and has that drive. Injury risk aside, I would be happy with him…but I also have reservations about Wemby. Haven’t all of his siblings who play professional ball all had serious injuries too?
Scoot is an amazing consolation prize. It's going to take a rough start and 3-4 years of development to polish his game and make it efficient but he will be a star. I like the Dwayne Wade comparison. Maybe an inch shorter than Wade. I see some similarities to Ja Morant too. With Sengun on the squad we could ease Scoot into PG duties. Sengun Jabari Eason Green Scoot That's a hell of a core. I really think we're going to get Wemby though.
So your suggestion is? Because every draft pick is a couple years away from being whatever he will be.. Even that youngin in France people hallucinating over.. Edit: I see your suggestion.. But Murray would be ass on this team , unfortunately.. There's no quick fix because there's no direction.. Stone is into accumulating best player available picks instead of seeing how they fit.. Best player available only works if there's actually experienced successful talent with a direction.. Dude acts like he's from the Patriots front office ..
That is just not true, the draft used to have NBA ready players coming in and contributing right away, that so rarely happens now, especially if you are drafting 19 year olds..... I think the way Stone is doing it is a 5 year tank MINIMUM and could drag on longer if we don't get lucky and get a GREAT player in the draft, which we have not done yet. DD
5 years is a long time. In that time; people you know could have life milestones by then. They get married, or have kids, or kids graduating, or relatives/friends who passes away. Agree on the lack of fundamental. Prospects from Europe still seem to teach that. Not saying the kids here don't or can't learn, but they seem to be behind. And you're also trusting that your org can develop fundamentals properly. I've ragged on the coaches; but they're limited in ways like schedule. Logistical limitations, how much can you do during off-days in modern NBA. Are the short weeks of summer really the only time to develop guys. Saving grace is other teams are also getting young players, who lack fundamentals; so you compete with that. Top 5 picks nowadays salary costs 5-8 $mil / year. It's relative small overall, but not as cheap as it once were. Thinking purely on opportunity costs. Org is technically taking a loss on value at the immediate future. 5-8 mil you can still get a semi-vet role player, who can you give better production than your rookies/ and sophmores. Org pays the deposit, in hopes that the young player pans out. The sooner that rookie/sophomore blooms, the actual return to value comes back on that rookie deal. If you bloom too late; like Zach Lavine, teams like Minnestoda moves on from him (after 3 years), and the next team takes a chance. Or could hold for too long on a Dante Exum. In 2020, Pistons fans comped Saddiq Bey's upside to a Paul George, now he's already traded. For every player that lives up to their NBA expectation, how many players failed to their floor. 6'1" Henderson could turn out great. Another ignite player like Green. I'm also holding out for Jabari, but even by rookie standards, Bari's not as plug-n-play as I'd hoped. If Henderson is like a Green or Jabari, it's going to be more years on this treadmill. If we get the #2 pick; yea we take him, but as others mentioned, the pivot may not be as immediate as fans hope. Team stinks now, yes we get it; but evaluation is crucial, front office, coaches, and players really can't be slacking off.
