Take Brad Miller out also. RA didn't play Hill or Patrick in the fourth. Miller was tired out there but RA kept him out there.
I'm sorry, but why blame everything on Scola? He's relentless on boards and is a legitimate offensive threat (he was even drawing double teams). Yeah, his defense is not good, but he can be supported tremendously if brad miller isn't playing every minute in the 4th qtr next to him.
He hasnt played defense for years its just that its finally getting noticed this season. Hopefully other teams havent noticed it and he is still a tradeable commodity. His defense was bad this summer playing for Argentina as well, its just that he gets great stats and everyone seems to forget about the other end. I get knocked in the GARM when i mention Scola should be traded for such and such and finally it seems that Im not alone now. Shop Scola and see what they can get in return. I could see Phoenix still being interested if they are going to hang on to Nash for the remainder of his contract.
There is only so much hiding you can do with a player as bad defensively as Scola. He is ranked 264th in defense for points allowed per possession, which is horrible for a PF. He is even worse than Zach Randolph defensively.
It's hard to figure out what to do with Scola because he can give most teams 20 points and 10 rebounds but then his defense is atrocious. Seems like most people on our team were doing just fine when they had Yao down low. Now there is nobody to erase their mistakes. The only way our team is going to succeed the way it is now is if we get a defensive center. Dalembert or Haywood anyone?
Scola has his talents and could help a lot of ball clubs. He was a good 4 to have next to Yao before the injuries, but he is not the answer for this team. We need interior players that can protect the rim and play against length, and Scola cannot do either. He is particularly ineffective when facing long athletic 4's because his offense generally disappears too. It's time to move Scola as part of a larger package. It's been a good run, but the Rockets need to consolidate some of their talent for better players and Scola should be one of the players to go.
Chuck Hayes, Shane Battier, and Brad Miller are tied with Scola at 1.08 PPP, I THINK I SEE A TREND! Defensive stats are completely worthless, always. One year Avery Johnson had the 2nd worst PPP in the NBA and then he *magically* became above average the next year when they drafted a guy named Tim.
^And btw, all four of those guys are tied for best defenders on your Houston Rockets! Scola is actually your best option when it comes to defense on this team.
When did PP become such a great player? Last time I checked he was a rookie who averaged 5 points in 15 minutes... maybe that has changed and I haven't realized. I'll have to start checking those box scores more often
You must be delusional. They are not equally good at defense. Player PPP Rank Miller 0.97 312nd Scola 0.93 264th Battier 0.88 173rd Hayes 0.78 40th Hayes allows 0.78 PPP(40th) overall, and 0.68 PPP(15th) for post-up, and 0.62 PPP(7th) for isolation. He is our best defender ranked 40th in the league. Miller allows 0.97 PPP(312nd) overall. However, he really gets torn up in isolation for 1.06 PPP(210th) compared to Chuck's 0.62 PPP(7th). Battier is ok at 0.88 PPP(173rd). He does very well with players coming off screens. He gives up 0.96(57th) PPP to such plays. When the opposing player spots up, he allows 0.89 PPP(76th).
Scola is just not athletic enough to defend these 20 something year old athletic and talented Fowards. If the foward is o,ne dementional then it is an easier task for him, but if his match up can bang in the paint and hit the open 16 footer, Its a major problem, Same thing with Brad Miller. They both play with a little cement in their shoes, Brad has more.
RA forgot that earlier in the season that Brad and Jordan played very well off the bench together, Brad would spread the floor Jordan would pack the paint, I lose respect for RA every game, Even some of the games we win
Scola is really awful at guarding forwards who can spot up. Scola allowed the opposing player to shoot 54 FGM of 110 FGA (48.6% FG) and 18 FGM of 34 FGA(52.9%) on 3pt attempts. In spot up situations, Chuck allowed 19 FGM of 50 FGA(38% FG) from the opposing player. Keep telling yourself Scola is tied with Chuck for defense. It won't make it true.
