But with around 32 minutes per game, hopefully he can average around the 15 ppg and 8 rebs per game that I am predicting for us. His points will surely depend on him improving his free throw shooting percentage though.
Personally I love the way Scola plays the game and the basketball gods threw us a bone letting us get Scola, then threw us another bone in letting us pick up Artest. Scola is one heck of a smart basketball player, how about the move when he head faked the three spurs then layed the ball in, smooooth! He has definitely become one of my favorite Rockets! IMO he is gonna make big strides this year, and you'll be hearing ESPN talking about him alot more.
I insists that Rockets should get a 6-10 PF that defends and gets Rebound(score not needed). Let Yao only play 20-30min in regular season. This PF will be a good fit either for Yao or Scola... It will work with any combination.
Scola had 20 pts and 7 rbs in his latest olympic game. Ginobili had 32 pts. I want to see Scola improve on his rebounding. He gets his rebounds mostly from hustling on the offensive side. If he can take more control in his defensive rebounding, that will help out Yao a lot in that regard. I am not concerned about his scoring. He won't be our main option anyway, unless both Yao and TMac sit at the same time. But he will get his points from put backs, slashing, fast break, and internal passing from Tmac and Yao when they draw the defense. If Chuck Hayes could get so many easy baskets from TMac's passing, I am sure Scola will do even more. He needs to improve his FT though.
Good analysis.I would like to see an improvement in his jumper as well, especially from top of the key.He also needs to learn how to stay out of quick foul trouble too.
Goo point, Saleem, about Scola and foul trouble. More then anything he'd be more effective if Coach A didn't have to remove him from games so much. Some of it is how aggressively he goes at guys, especially stars, but I think the refs definitely had an eye out for him as well. Scola should have more success with being an aggressive on the ball defender and less of a foul magnet.
When you have Scola as your 4th best player, there is no reason to complain. He is going to get alot of opportunities, because teams are going to have to key on Yao and Artest. Compare it to Boston's other starters, Perkins and Rondo, Scola is almost a wizard on offense. The opposing power forward or center actually has to play defense. Watching some of last year's games, it is headache for a team with a great defending big men to defend Scola and Yao alone. I don't see how New Orleans is ranked ahead of us. Maybe, health concerns, but talent wise, no way. How is a front line of Yao, Scola, and Artest...not one of the top 3 in the league? The only line I would consider to be better is Boston's front line of Perkins, KG, and Pierce, which is mainly because of Pierce and KG. I think Yao/Scola/Artest beats out Bynum/Gasol/Odom, Artest is much better player Odom and Yao is greater player than Bynum.
I don't think Scola has the athleticism to dunk in traffic. Same thing about Yao. He is not too gentle to dunk. He just doesn't have the quickness and hop to stuff it when defenders are challenging. At least Yao is always bigger than the other guy. Not so for Scola.
This didn't even look like a top 10. It just looked like a bunch of normal Scola plays. That's a good thing.
maybe but I don't think so . . . I think the guy is Awesome I think Yao is awesome but I really want to see them DUNK ONE SOME GUY'S BRAINS hurt some folx's feelings Posterize them Ok Ok Ok . .I want to see Aaron Brooks posterize someone too but you get the point I think that Scola would draw more fouls if he went up hard I think his hesitency cost him maybe 2 pts per game whether he gets blocked. . called for three seconds in the lane or give the defense time to recover Like DaDakota said . .. Yao had to learn the same thing the point is to SCORE and WIN . . . and sometimes that means forcing the action and getting foul rather than putting the ball in the hoop [two form the line as good as a difficult fading away twisting shot] I think this year . . .alot of teams are going to be going into the locker room trying to figure out just which rocket just dropped 25 on them Rocket River
The only problem with Scola is that he plays below the rim. The only way he is going to score is off a bunch of fakes or if he is wide open. He's a great role player but he's definitely not on par with T-Mac and Yao. At least not in the NBA.
I love Scola to death but he's definitely the king of making shots more difficult than they need to be.
Same here about jonesin' for Scola as a Rocket, and agree about Luis making things hard for himself last season, when trying to score in the paint, for instance, but I really believe that he'll be much improved this season. The guy is smart, skilled and has a motor that won't quit. He is, for all practical purposes, a superstar in Europe. The adjustment to the NBA, with the greater athleticism and length here, was something he had to work through. In my opinion, he had adjusted a hell of a lot by the end of last season, has spent a good deal of time thinking about what he needs to do to improve, and will show us a lot more on offense and, I hope, on defense. I also think Coach A has been pondering ways to get more scoring from Scola, which will help. Coach has one of the best minds in the league when it comes to putting players in a position to have success on the offensive end. We'll see the fruits of that from Luis when the season starts.
