ASG = ultimate popularity contest...lot of people who liked the Lakers. Do you know what Malone's numbers were the year he didn't go to that All-Star Game (sat out)? A.C. Green was good player, but he never had the same kind offense Scola does? Scola is very creative with his shots. In a way, he shoots like guard or small forward.
It's probably semantic. Having similar stats does not mean they are the same type of player. Yes, I agree that if Scola averages 14-9 while we have TMac and Yao, we'll be a great team, not to mention Artest and Battier. And I am pretty sure he will be able to do that. But Scola's game is very different from Green's. Scola can score a bunch if he is the #1 option. His Olympic performance against the US proved that. Green was a solid contributor on offense but was never a great scorer.
From TrueHoop on ESPN, Kobe was talkin trash to Scola...in spanish! Nate Jones heard something on the internet broadcast earlier that I missed. Manu Ginobili was shooting free throws, and LeBron was chatting away. Kobe had been talking to the opponents in Spanish, and LeBron said something or other to Kobe and then added "make sure they understand that." The idea being, as Nate understood it, that Bryant was to translate some trash talk for James. Hilarious. UPDATE: Post-game, Jones e-mails: "It was actually at the 29:50 mark on the NBC online replay (Chris Bosh is shooting free throws). And after being able to replay it and listen, I realize that it was Kobe doing all the trash talking in Spanish to Scola and LeBron telling Kobe that was enough trash talking and to play ball. While watching it live, I heard LeBron talking to Kobe and Kobe's voice talking to Scola in Spanish and then a voice (which I thought was LeBron's) say 'make sure he understand that.' But it was actually Kobe telling Scola: 'Make sure you understand this!' Not as funny, but still a funny sequence."
Glad to come back to the forum after being out of town for a while and seeing that you and some others agree that we have a BIG 4, not just Big 3. I think the numbers I have predicted for Scola for next year with the Rockets are justified by your analogy of the attention our Big 3 will get and his Olympics stats even more. I mean look at him leading the Argentines in scoring and look at his FG % and the number of free throws he got!: Argentina NO. Crazy how Luis shot closer to his Euro average at the charity stripe during the Olympics than he did last season with the Rocks. I'm hoping he can dupilicate his Olympic percentage this season. After a year, I still can't believe the Spers gave him away to us.
If you think about it, Scola scored 27 points on the USA team, which means he scored 27 against the BEST (arguably) NBA players, so imagine what he will do against individual NBA teams..
I like the lineup minus brooks......It is amazing how a guy that hasn't shown he can do squat has a following.... Brooks is trash..i would rather have earl boykins..if i wanted a undersized scrub
Seconded, I don't get all the Brooks love either. Guys been good in spurts but nothing so spectacular he belongs in the starting lineup.
Brooks is trash? How do you even come up with that? He played in 51 games as a rookie. In those games he averaged about 12 minutes per game. He shot .413 from the floor and had 1.7 assists to .86 turnovers. That's a decent assist to turnover ratio for a rookie PG in limited minutes. He also shot .857 from the charity stripe. While I'm not in any way saying he should start, that isn't garbage and it is ridiculous to even try to come to a definitive conclusion that he is garbage with such a small sample size.
