How does he mostly score on Team Argentina? Can someone who follow them fervently give me a detailed report?
Last summer, Scola was the MVP in Las Vegas. He is a "go to" player on Argentina's team. This morning, he looked very good, especially his jumper. Never seen him so accurate. On another note, Argentina as a team didn't look that good to me. When Russia played hard defense, they turned it over way too easily. Team USA shouldn't have a problem with them in the semifinals. All they need to do is sick Kobe on Manu, make up their mind Scola isn't going to beat them and swarm.
This morning it was (1) his jumper, (2) moving without the ball and getting fed. Moving around got him layups and a lot of FTs.
Nice to hear his jumper was involved. Him and Yao Ming will be beastly if Scola can play the high post.
He also took AK off the dribble from the high post in the 1Q. His jumper was locked in from everywhere inside the 3-point line. Scola's a very versatile scorer. He'll be a deadly weapon this season with a year of NBA experience under his belt.
It's this kind of showing by Scola that makes me a little less concerned about re-signing Landry (note: a little). I mean, I'd like to see what kind of numbers he can put up with a consistent 35 minutes a game.
Don't forget how effective Landry was. He is a good contrast to bring in off the bench. If Landry comes back healthy, improved and more consistent, the Rockets will be much better off for it. But certainly Scola is more important by far.
im telling ya, GIVE THE MAN MORE SHOTS. he can easily avg 14-15 ppg next yr. hell, i won't be surprised if he averages more than artest b/c he will have more mismatches.
The amazing part is, he was not selfish at all to score these points, He's not forcing anything. It's just their silk-smooth flow offence created so many good oppotunities for the players. IIRC, Nocioni was perfect at 2points, 3points and FTs until late 3rd quarter this game. But I don't think he can do that as a rocket. Because NBA play "star basketball" while FIBA play "system basketball". That's a huge philosophy difference. And That's also the main reason imo many good FIBA players were considered "suck" in NBA.
Nice to see him schooling AK. Man next year is going to be interesting. I also agree that Landry brings a nice switch when he comes in.
