Actually you previously mentioned the 2004 game. Going for hte still every team only works against weaker guards, that is why i was mentioning the better Non-US guards in the world. If you don't agree to this point on the defense i have no clue what game you were watching. Tonight was a perfect example, Argentina was either losing the ball, or they were getting inside at will. They lack a bit on their outside shot tonight, it was probably one of their worst 3 point shooting nights of the whole tournament.
Wasn't talking about Team USA this year...I was talking about the team in previous years...when they didn't win
They're sharing the ball well, but based on tonight's game (which was apparently a stand out effort) it's still All-Star NBA basketball. They could get upset by an actual team that plays together as a rule. I don't much follow this kind of stuff cause it's usually pretty boring, but does anyone know why we don't just field the NBA champs?
Actually i just went back, it was Sam Fisher who mentioned the 2004 team. My mistake, sorry about that.
The Spurs? I don;t think Ginobli, Oberto, Parker will be to happy to represent team USA. I don;t think is legal actually.

So because the USA has been in a slump recently with winning gold medals they have to win again to say they are the best? How about we call the best team the best team, and that is the USA. Or how about this, the other countries can consider them the best when they even come close to USA's total Gold medals? When Argentina, Italy, China, Greece, Spain, France, or any other team reaches 12 Gold Medals in Olympic competition, then we can talk, if you want to compare success. The FIBA Championships is may not be the same in terms of Gold medals, but the USA is still tied for the most, and they have the most overall medals. So please, just because the USA hasn't won recently doesn't take anything from them.
No, it doesn't. It means your basis is on the past, not the present. If you want to bring up the past, then the USA is the best because they have dominated Olympic basketball since its beginning. The present is where it should be judged by, and the USA has the best team, will be the best team, and will win the Gold medal. If the squad stays together, they'll win in 2010 at FIBA WCs as well.
Splitter is going to make Yao look like a inmobile stiff. That kid is for real, and will have a full year of playing as the go to guy in Tao Ceramica. I think the Spurs are weaker this year, they will be able to replenish the year after. Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker are not that old. But I wouldn't be surprise of watching an all Texas finals 2 years in a row in the NBA. Btw the Southwest is going to be nasty. Even the bottom two are going to be dangerous and won't be easy wins.
You know who this team reminds me of... It reminds me of Brazil in the soccer world cup. Just because you ar ethe best in paper, doesn't mean you are going to win it all.
No, I bring up the recent past. The last world competition. The present cannot be judged because no world competition is being played. Now you are judging by the future... lol

That's a valid point, but you're comparing to very different sports with different teams. Teams like France, Italy, Germany, and Argentina were much more competitive versus Brazil than the International teams of FIBA are with the USA. Not saying they aren't competitive, but nowhere, and I mean nowhere, near as competitive as the case with Brazilian soccer.
Of course you are... Scola's numbers against USA: 20 pts (8/12 2pts, 4/5 ft), 5 rbs, 1 as, 1 bl, 4 fouls, 2 TO in 18 minutes.
I love Scola's stat line, can't wait for him as a Rocket. As for the other debate, we'll see what happens, it's been fun debating it, of course other team's have a chance, I know that, I'm just being stubborn, but then again, so are others. I'm off to bed.
