gtg with odom and gasol, both potential FRANCHISE players, scola a layman's layman's gasol and landry 3 inches too short of being a starting pf
Surely it's a joke! You put Gasol/ Odom on this team instead of Scola/ Landry and we'd only have 6-7 losses.... Gasol and Chuck Hayes would actually work as a frontcourt tandem on the defensive side because Gasol has the legit size to act as a 'backstop' defender. Odom (who I concur IS the worst player out of the 4) still brings skills to the table - off the bench he would facilitate our halfcourt sets nicely and set up the three point shooters from the high post position while still bringing shot-blocking at the defensive end. Pau Gasol is close to being the best big man in the league at the moment - and there's people voting for Scola/Landry
both scola and landry can school odom on the post all day, the only advantage odom has is ball handling over them. gasol has height he is a center, can't compare him to the rockets forwards, but if i was starting a team and had to choose no doubt i go scola landry, team players, dont cry about minutes, good work ethics, and dont need kobe bryant who demands double and triple teams to help his teammates score. theres a reason odom comes off the bench and doesn't start, he makes a lot of mistakes and isnt a hard worker, eating candies all day.
you put scola /landry on the lakers and they have 2 losses rockets are lucky to have 2 scorers who can shoot from 15-18 ft and post and play defense. odom couldn't post and score if he was being guarded by lowry, and he couldn't hit a 15 footer if the rim was 8ft in diameter, did anyone even know who he was before going alongside kobe? heat, clippers fans? gasol on the other hand can play on the post and plays nice d, but theres no centers in the west to be honest to contend pao with ming being out, and he's "fragile".
Straight up I will disagree with that statement. Literally before winding up on the Lakers, Gasol did absolutely nothing for the Grizzles even with Rudy Gay. Scola and Landry both landed on the team and in their rookie season helped McGrady and Yao go on that 22 game win streak when they finally started giving them both more playing time. While individually Scola and Landry don't show as much talent as Gasol, both are extremely consistent. That alone puts them above Odom, as for Gasol, as a duo they match if not overtake him in effectiveness. Combined, it is hard to rate, because Odom is more of a muscular PF that is better when he plays SF, meaning it would really depend on the make up of the team. But if you are starting Odom as your PF, that is a recipe for disaster IMO. Either way, I love what Scola and Landry bring to the team so it is moot point, because frankly with an Odom or Gasol, I doubt we'd be playing like this because those guys do indeed have egos that are only kept in check in LA because Kobe's ego is bigger.
If the we trade Luis and Carl for Odom, would the Lakers have 2 losses? Dude they would have ZERO losses lol...Odom can and has posted up plenty of people and can lead the break anytime HE CHOOSES but to often doesn't. Landry/Scola > Odom but Landry/Scola < Odom/GASOL...Gasol is the complete package and is a matchup nightmare for almost every team. A better comparison is MARC GASOL...dude is in the mold of Carl and Luis, I hope DMorey has atleast called to inquire about him.
You could make the case that he's the worst, especially based on his subpar start to this season, but "by far" is a stretch. If Odom was on the Rockets and Scolandry was on the Lakers, you'd be talking about how Odom makes his teammates so much better with his passing and defense, while Scolandry just puts up points and rebounds a la Zach Randolph.
Gasol lead Memphis to 3 straight playoff apperances along with Shane in the mid 2000's and he made the Lakers a championship team, just look at the numbers. You call the Lakers and say right now Luis/Landry for Gasol...they would laugh and then hang up.
you must be from spain to think pao gasol is the complete package, ill admit he might be the best center in the "west" but he is not the complete package. kobe is the complete package, pao is a part of kobes complete package. put him in the east off the lakers, lets say the knicks... he would get beaten by Dhoward, cbosh, KG and wallace, Shaq and ilgauskas,Horford and smith, and yes im putting 2 guys names because thats who he would have to deal with in the east, and wouldn't have that great a numbers if he didn't have kobe and was in the east.
you call the Rockets and say gasol for luis and landry.. they would laugh , and laugh again, then hang up.. Gasol had a good young team in memphis, lots of role players, including shane, mike miller, mike dickerson lol. remember him.. , Gasol is good, but definitely not the reason the lakers won last year, yao going down was the reason the lakers won last year and the celtics didnt make the finals. wont happen this year though
No, Kobe is one of the greatest players in the HISTORY of the game so he is obivously a complete package...PAU is the complete package amongst BIGS and please tell me something he doesn't do well, not great, but well because if you simply look at his numbers I don't see a clear problem area? How would he compare to the East Bigs??? Well Howard is a CENTER not a PF, KG is past his prime so right now its Pau, Wallace and Shaq really??? really??? Big Z, Horford and Smith deserve no response. The only guy that I'd agree would be a battle is Bosh but by no means a landslide.
Fans grow attached to players on their team and become homers. I was like that with Steve Novak, I wouldn't trade him even if it was for Rashard Lewis.
Gasol is one of the most versatile bigmen in the league and it's a 7 footer. He alone makes up for Landry and Scola. I think the best combination would be Gasol and Scola as both are very versatile and great rebounders.
I wasn't talking about ben wallace, i said Kg and rasheed wallace, and kg is ballin right now in case you haven't noticed, and i dont think pao can handl the size of zeke and shaq tandem, hes weak, thats his weakness, he can't back up stronger players... and if you feel horford and smith are not worht mentioning, see the standings and watch one of their games, all defense.. another one of paos weaknesses is perimeter defense, there was a reason all the laker fans were hating on him last year in the rockets series, landry and scola were killing him
