No I do get his point. And Scola is more like a 0.5/10 on defense. At least in the low post. Patterson more like a 7/10. When he is completely healthy he'll be even better. Of course he has room for improvement on offense but his low post game is much better than you give him credit for. Not to mention it will continue to get better as he learns more from Scola, McHale, etc...
Sometimes I wonder if fans even watch the games and not just YouTube highlights. If Scola could create his own offense then we'd feed him the ball but he can't even fight for position close to the rim. I love Scola but he shouldn't start over Patterson and even in this game you can see the coach somewhat agrees. Scola was a great Rocket but his time here is heading to an end.
I agree. Especially when you take into account the defensive 50% of basketball. Scola needs to score 20-25 a night to justify starting him. (Same with Martin)
He used to be able to. Sadly it appears that time has past. Too bad he didn't come to the NBA sooner.
SMH. If you watch McHale's post game press conference, you can clearly tell that he loves Scola and has a lot of faith in him. To truly understand Scola's value, you have to look beyond the youtube, look beyond a few games in an awkward season, and take in the big picture. The reason why Scola is having a difficult time posting up this year is because opposing teams game-plan for him. He is our primary threat in the post and therefore he gets the best post defender and sometimes even help from their guards on a half-trap. Scola was never meant to be the primary post option on our team. He is a crafty and highly skilled veteran that can punish defenses if they leave him open or try to cover him with a subpar defender. Just look at all the years that Scola was with Yao. He was a good rebounder and excellent partner in the high post because of his ability to play off the ball and hit the open shot. Did you forget the Blazers playoff series? Ppat is a decent young talent. He is not a Hayes on defense though and has some severe flaws in his game that will prevent him from being an effective starter in this league unless he overcomes them. eg. does not finish strong in the paint, is mechanical and shies from contact, often drops passes or loses the ball in traffic, one of the worst at getting to the line.
My bad. I guess hope to get something for Scola and if we don't amnesty anybody, we don't amnesty anybody.
scola's contract is in the average range for a starting 4. the defenses are playung him much closer and doing everything they can to deny him the ball. his defense is very under rated...not a particularly good post defender, average pnr/help defender, doeant block shots. Overall, not very good, but to believe some folks here....he doesnt play a lick of d, which simply isnt true. See Martin for the dictionary definition of zero defense.
How much of the most recent contract was compensation for the 3 years he was underpaid as a very productive PF for us? I think it had something to do with it.
Have you been watching Scola? I haven't looked at the numbers, but I bet they paint a different picture. Luis Scola is fumblerooski out there. 3.3 turnovers per 36 compared to Patterson's 0.9 turnovers per 36. I don't disagree that Scola is still a much bigger threat on offense than Patrick, but let us atleast find the true failings of Patrick's game. He literally never loses the ball in traffic, and he rarely ever drops passes, as shown by his 0.5 turnovers a game...
I'd rather pay Scola 8.6M, than Pau $18.7M.... but most people on this board seem to be all hot n bothered bout Pau and want to amnesty Scola... and they're both the same age...
Pau is having a down year and is still putting up 21.0 PER, which is higher than any player on the Rockets team, including Lowry. 20+ PER is legitimate all-star-level production. That's why we want him. He's worth the money.
Scola is on the decline....his played too much bball in his life overseas + national team He wont be starter level next year
Not much longer, I predict. You keep starting repetitive, stupid threads. Front court too soft Our team is soft Scola Contract -Overpaid ...and two amazing gems... Which Rockets player needs their Face Stomped on ? Thabeet - Amazing Improvement (locked) Not to forget: Rick Unableman is a Phycho (sic, locked) You need to shut up and get out.
you sound like 80 year old women writing complaint letters to tv stations then keep watching the shows you complain about.
It was a mistake at the time; he should have been flipped in the last year of his last deal. Yao Ming wasn't walking through that door...etc.
