Why was Scola signed to such a long term contract at his age for 10 million per year.

Most people will think I'm crazy, but I'll go ahead and say it: signing Scola to that contract was a bigger mistake than not keeping Jeremy Lin this year.

I didn't like the Scola contract too much when it was signed, but at the time we didn't have any other proven PF options or top-notch prospects. I'm still not sure we do, I like Pat a lot but I'm not sure he's good enough to start just yet. I have a lot of hope for Motiejunas.

We can always amnesty Scola if needed right?

Yeah, I keep forgetting about that. If we can't trade Scola by the deadline, I'd favor just letting him go via the amnesty clause.

There really wasn't a much better option at the time. Not to mention 10 mil a year for a guy that averages ~18, 8 is reasonable. The problem is that he has been awful this year. If he can start scoring more efficiently he can still help us though.

If we kept Lin, he would be playing in the D-League right now, or at best he'd be playing garbage time during blowouts and no Linsanity. Rox letting him go was the best thing that could have happened to him.

He said himself that he was losing confidence after bouncing around, if he stayed, he probably would have been out of the league by next season.

As for Scola, his dropped numbers this year probably has alot to do with Chuck Hayes not being in lineup, helping run the offense and cover for Scola's defensive mistakes. You put Scola next to a competent defensive frontline and those numbers will shoot back up.

I dunno, don't you think it would be a better idea to save it? Don't teams have 10 years to use it?

Really? Can only be used once every 10 years?

Once for the entire CBA which lasts the next 10 seasons I believe.

Only really makes sense if there is a need for the cap room-- i.e. if a max player or two has agreed to sign with Houston. Otherwise, little point in letting him go just to make the salary situation look pretty if no one is coming to take it.

Yeah I thought teams have 10 years to use it but they can only use one. Seems like an a$$et Morey would want to hold on to lol.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong about the 10 yrs thing...

I thought deadline for amnesty already past

Regardless. Scola is worth that. He just needs to get out of his funk. On top of that, a lot of teams were over paying players last year due to having so much cap free'd.

Patterson and Motiejunas need to be getting major minutes next year, and we need to rehaul our C position as well. I don't see a place there for Scola.
