0 minutes. Didn't he shave his head? I'm a homer, but I'm not going to pretend Scola is better than Bosh. Bosh would've been the #1 option here. With Yao back, Scola is going to be the #2 or #3 option.
Trust me, if we got Bosh, this team would miss Scola's heart and grit. While Bosh is better, I am not sure the team is better with him instead of Luis. VIVA SCOLA !! DD
ok, i admit that losing Bosh is a little bit dissapointing.. BUT, i LOVE seeing Scola on our team and also watch the improvement from our young hardworking PF (Hill and Patterson).. rather than the mercenary-attention-freak-money-oriented-predator-face player.. Scola would be a better mentor for our young players..
It's time to show Scola some love I think Scola is the 2nd best PF in this FA class. Now that Bosh is gone, we need to make sure Scola signs on. So far we have not heard much about teams and Scola, but that will change quick now that Bosh has decided and the dominoes fall. Teams will look around and realize that Scola is a big time player, someone will throw up a big contract to get him. I know the team 'won' in their contractual negotiations with Landry by waiting out the offers and eventually getting him at their price. I think this is a dangerous strategy to employ with Scola for several reasons: 1) Scola is a much more established player than Landry was last year, he's a starter, he puts up consistent numbers. 2) Scola is not coming off injury as Landry was, people were scared off by Landry's knee before the draft and they were still scared of his injuries last year. Scola has always been healthy and can definitely handle the NBA workload. 3) Teams last year were scared of a major drop in salary cap, plus every single team seemed to be trying to clear space for the big 3 FA. That will not happen this year, the salary cap drop was not that bad, and those teams that saved up all that money are going to use it on someone. 4) The market for big men is insane: Darko, Amir Johnson, Warrick, those 3 guys all got big deals and Scola is much better than any of them. Right now we have to offer a deal that beats their contract handily. But waiting until after some idiot offers David Lee the max and Scola's contract demands will go even higher. So I think we need to get that Caravan to Scola's house, make a Scola ipad, and show him the love. He seems like a reasonable guy that's not out to make all he can, he'll 'settle' for a fair contract offer and security and coming back to a team that loves him (like Ginobili).
Bosh is an upgrade over Scola, but not by much. Actually, I don't even know since Scola have something that you can't teach: Heart, desire, grit, unbelievable concentration in big game, like to do well in big game, always competitive, taking charges, hustling, trick moves at the post. Does Bosh have all of those?? I don't think so. Will this more than make up for what Scola lack in terms of length, athleticism and block shot?? Perhaps! Bottomline, I don't know.
Beating them is going to feel extra good this year. One thing I'm surprised about is I feel like Bosh is kind of a tool after the whole process. Of course what tool wouldn't want to be closer to Pat Riley? They should sign Scottie Pippen, Antoine Walker, Steve Francis. You know, desperate people.
You didnt realize he was a tool when he asked people on twitter to help him decide where to go? Or how about a year ago when he made videos trying to get people to vote him into the all star game?
I actually just hit Scola up with a tweet, telling him how much he's appreciated. After all the drama with free agency, makes you appreciate a guy even more that keeps his mouth shut and brings his lunchbox everyday.
Sometimes the best moves are the ones that didn't happen. Remember Horry for Sean Elliott. I'm sure Bosh will put up pretty numbers for Miami next year. But I am more than happy to go with Scola as our PF next year, knowing he'll bring heart, skill, smarts, hustle, and toughness to the table in every game.
too bad that doesn't translate into rebounds over Paul Gasol. I get your point though. If we do significantly UPGRADE in another area eventually (PG, Backup C) Scola could be that winning piece.
I'm with you, but Scola's an RFA. The smart money thing to do is sit back, wait for someone to make him an offer, and match it, and maybe offer an extra year to show that we want him around awhile.
Some people are sounding like bitter and jealous ex's who just got dumped. Bosh is a better player but he made his choice and now we can all move on and focus on the next move to make. Fortunately our PF spot wasn't a glaring weakness dependent on getting Bosh. Scola is a very good PF in his own right and it would be hard to see him go.
As one of the anti-Bosh, pro-Scola guys around here, I am happy. Scola complements Yao so well and he always gives his heart and soul every game. Same cannot be said about Bosh. He was a loser his first few years in the league and he will continue to lose in Miami. They have Wade+nothing around him. Maybe better than Toronto (MAYBE) but still a losing a team. Losers gonna lose. That is the way of the world. Ask Tracy McGrady.
Good luck to Chris Bosh. Seriously! If this guy would rather take $30 million dollars less and lick Dwayne Wade's boots in Miami than come back to his home state and be the "Lead Dog" on a contending playoff team, then he's not the guy we wanted leading us anyway.
I have been saying this for DAYS! Scola is a proven winner, Bosh ... I am not sure. Glad more people are on board.
I'm with you man! What has Chris Bosh accomplished being "the guy" in Toronto all these years? that's right, nothing! I would not give max dollars to a guy that can not overcome the second round. I think we been through this already.
with so much ego tripping from this free agent class, I think the basketball gods are furious and misfortune will be coming their way. The exalted shall be humbled , and the humbled will be exalted. On a lighter note, one things for sure, cris bosh can't dance the salsa like Luis Scola. Scola has some pretty sick dance moves.
