It'd be much better if this was fraud organization that's acting as a tax shelter. I wonder if another generation or two will make their leaders actually believe what they're saying. They'll also have billions of dollars in assets to work with.

    Mind altering drugs cost money.

Go see the movie Luther, and check out how the Catholic church used to sell tokens to get you out of purgatory and in to heaven....

    Just ridiculous.

O.K. -- That was just as ridiculous and wrong as Scientology. I'm not sure of your point? Luther broke from that church partially because of that ridiculous practice put in place by a church leadership corrupted by power. It was not and never will be what Christianity stands for.

Good point. It may be just a belief system that enslaves people for personal gain, like the communists.

    Great! Sign me up! ;)

I will certainly try to come back to Houston and make a Rockets' game. I just hope they aren't tank mode like the last time I was there.

Of course the same could be said for all other religions. I don't buy, literally and figuratively, Scientology and think its likely a scam but it is a good example of a basic problem with religious belief. Religion isn't rational so ultimately whether someone does something religious rationality isn't going to be the main factor. If you believe indulgences will save your dead grandma from Purgatory you will buy an indulgence. All the arguments in regard to why are you wasting your money don't matter if belief is strong enough. There's no way we can actually prove that buying indulgences doesn't save your ancestor from Purgatory or if even if Purgatory exist or not.

Well of course it wasn't what it stands for, but it did happen, and has happened in most religions.

My point is that Scientology is going through the same growing pains as the other religions.

Do you know who loves Scientology? Libpig heroine and Air America star Janeane Garofalo.

    Garofalo gushes over Scientology-linked project
    By Jeannette Walls
    MSNBC
    Updated: 1:45 a.m. CT May 2, 2006

Why is Janeane Garofalo touting a Scientology-linked project?

The actress and talk-show host has done two segments on her Air America radio show “Majority Report,” heaping praise on the controversial New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, a program based on the teachings of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

On one show, her guests included Leah Remini, star of “King of Queens” and a devout Scientologist, who sang the praises of the detox project.

Although the Detoxification Project has been heralded by some Sept. 11 first responders, it has also been blasted by the chief medical officer for the New York Fire Department after its validity was questioned by a number of health-care workers.

Everyone tends to act emotionally far more often than thinking rationally. It happens with their financial decisions among many other things. The flaw doesn't lie upon religion.

And Bush supporters probably give a lot more money to televangelists and faith healers than liberals. Your point?

i disagree with you completely. but i cannot discuss religion with someone who chooses to see religion as irrational. religion requires a respect for life, creation, the world we live in, and most importantly an understanding that we are not here by mere coincidence. those who choose to see religion as an emotional outlet to deal with life can never understand the peace or the joy that comes from it. there is a whole other world out there that you are missing by choosing to belittle the belief in a higher power.

Most, if not all, of the televangelists and "faith healers" aren't part of the Scientology group. Do a little background research, brah

Might it surprise you that I consider myself a religious and spiritual person and believe that religion is necessary for humans? My point though is that religion isn't rational. Can you scientifically prove that God exists? Then again humans and existence itself isn't rational.

I never said they were but they're using religion to enrich themselves. The same as Scientology, brah.

I take your point of mentioning Jeanene Garofola and why you bothered to call her a "lippig" and that she is a host of Air America was to belittle liberals as being easily taken in by religious hucksters. My response was to show that gullibility extends across political boundaries.

Nope, that wasn't my point. Let me teach you a lesson in life, Sishir. When you assume, you make an ass out of "u and me". Remember that.

My point was that this heroine who is revered by the liberals stands for the very subject that you guys are trashing in this thread. I'm not sure what possessed you to get all defensive and attack Republicans, but more power to ya.

I did ask you what your point and you didn't respond but according to what you write below that certainly does seem your point. If you notice people aren't trashing Scientology for the sake of trashing Scientology but that it seems weird and is being used to take people in. Or is your point that people bash Scientology out of a prejudice towards Scientology having nothing to do with how the organization acts?

Interesting you say that since you were the first person in this thread to bring up politics.

Also as for you use of "you guys" you might not have noticed I'm the only one who has defended Scientology in this thread.
