Any religion that requires you to pay to learn is no religion at all. Just go on their website and it doesn't tell you anything unless you pay to be a member.
I thought it was US or People, but I do seem to recall it was quite informative. Well, now that I think about it, maybe it was Rolling Stone. Does anyone know for sure?
You don't know squat about Scientology until you read this Rolling Stone article awhile back. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/9363363/inside_scientology
you know... being a mormon i feel bad for scientology in the sense that someone goes online and reads about scientology and thinks they have the scoop on "what scientologists really believe." mormons have always had this type of negative press. somebody goes online and reads a website from some obsure "professional" who supposedley knows everything about our religion. trust me when i tell you this, i have read many of those sites and a large majority of it is true information that is twisted or put in a negative context. rarely does one find objective information. having said that, scientologists seem pretty crazy to me . those beliefs are strange to say the least. anyway you spin it, the whole xenu thing is just crazy. i read the rolling stone article and it does have some interesting insights. i think their philosophies can be helpful to those who are looking for self mastery. all of us could use a little of that in our lives. but to pay to be a member? or no true belief in God or Christ? pass... all the way, pass. just remeber... just because you see something online or on tv doesn't mean it's true. muslims probably feel the same way.
Any religion that tells me I can't use medication is probably not one that I'm going to follow. By the way, has anybody found that Rolling Stone article?
I know absolutely nothing about scientology, other than what I saw on South Park. As a matter of fact, one of the only things I learned about it was that you have to be rich or famous to joing it. Actually, I was curious, too, and I was asking around. Come to find out, my brother says that L. Ron Hubbard invented it, and people think he may have invented it on a bet! There is actually a really good article that was written about it in the Rolling Stone. Be careful, though, it's long, and sometimes those types of articles are written with a negative tone. I would stay away, though.
Thanks for the head up...Maybe the message should be repeated for those who may want to take the time to write it down...
exactly. there are so many reasons why you could bag out Scientology. you could waste time being PC about it but it's really all a bunch of bollocks from where i sit.
I think the Mormons have it worse than scientologists when it comes to people believing they know about the religion based on rumor, "ex-Mormons", and website propoganda. The difference is that Scientologists in interviews won't give straight answers to questions, and money is involved heavily in climbing the ranks of Scientology knowledge.
If you need help finding that Rolling Stone Article, there is a new service on the internet that can actually help you look for it. try it, it's really neat
http://www.scientomogy.info/south-park.htm i found the south park episode. you gotta give it to these guys, the south park dudes dish it out on EVERYBODY. nobody is safe!! i guess this episode is banned from being played on comedy central because of a lawsuit.
To be fair many religions require some sort of tithe. I know its not exactly the same as paying to access info but money is involved in many religions.
Here's a hilarious video in which 3 guys accost some dude with a camera: http://glumbert.com/media/scientology.html
I wonder if they are taught to meet any kind of opposition with diverting attention by accusing the accuser? That way they never have to answer any questions.
I've read about half of the Rolling Stone article and Scientology sounds even wierder and more cultish than I had originally thought. I had heard about Thetans and engrams before but some of the other stuff about the Sea Organization and how secretive they are seems really out there.
