Didn't have time to read the thread, so they found the switch that turns on the refrigerator light when it opens and closes?

I don't think you and SwoLy really understood my post, which was partially my fault. Trust me, I know all about healthy diets and what to eat, and not eat, to reduce lipids. I know exercise is beneficial. What you didn't get from my post (perhaps it was too detailed?) is that this is a genetic problem. I can, and have in the past, eaten a very healthy diet, exercised (I still do, as best I can, with titanium screws holding part of my lower back together), stay below what's considered my average weight for my age and height, and without taking Lipitor, or a similar statin, I will have lipid levels far beyond anything any typical person with a problem with elevated lipid levels might have. My point about it not making a difference what I eat was a reference to my weight. It stays low regardless of what I eat, or how much, and without meds, I would have extremely high lipid (fat in your blood, in layman terms) numbers, even as thin as I keep myself. Why? Because the problem is genetic, a problem only controlled with meds. Thanks for the advice and concern, but it is misplaced. My point is that some people can't help being fat (or thin) because of their genetic makeup. Sure, they can influence their health and weight with hard work, but they are fighting the makeup of their genetics, not just their eating and exercise habits.

    Thanks, Sishir.

This was the recent end of a year long nightmare. You could say that I'm now an orphan, technically, despite having two great children. At least they were able to know and love their grandmother. They never knew my father, although I've made sure to keep his memory alive for them as best I can by telling them stories as they were growing up about his remarkable life. If I've been a little more odd than usual the past year, from time to time, this was the reason.

I understand that people do have genetic predispositions to certain conditions, but what most people don't realize is these genes are largely triggered by your diet and lifestyle.

I don't know how well you've tried these diets, but there is scientific proof that they help lower your LDL levels while increasing your HDLs. Changing your diet won't give you immediate results because your body has already accumulated these levels of fats. You'll see results over time, and I mean a long time of keeping disciplined in the diet.
