And my gripes with Arnold is that he is the biggest showman around and he doesn't add anything unique to the equation other than being born an Austrian.
I know what you mean but yeah, easier. They were a continent away from their oppressors. They knew exactly what they despised about human governance. My comment was not meant so much about the establishment of democratic government as the running of it. You hit on the theme that I was allluding too: no entrenched powers. No lobbies. No advertising agencies. Times were simpler.
I don't want to throw this whole damn thread off topic but if Arnold wasn't white would people even be considering it like they are for Arnold? Yeah, Arnolds from Austria and is a foreigner but you wouldn't know the difference unless you started talking to him. I think its unfair to take it seriously like this just cause Ahnold wants to run for the Republican nomination for President. I don't know anyone else who is in public office that is from another country. So quite frankly I don't see a huge reason to ammend the constitution just so Arnold can fulfill his wet dream of becoming the next Ronald Reagan. I don't see the huge appeal for the Repubs anyways. Basically the backbone of Bush's reelection was white protestants. Yeah, Arnold's really going to appeal to these folks. You know a guy that is involved in gangbangs and groping women on Hollywood sets. Not to mention his politics which are very liberal compared to Bush's. With all that said though I wouldn't mind seeing a legal immigrant become the President. I think it would say alot about our country and our promise to immigrants and all people that we are the land of the free and just. But I'm not interested in changing the constitution now just for Arnold. We still haven't even seen a black/hispanic or female president yet. Give it time.
