I don't think there should be any restrictrions. If the American people don't like their background they won't vote for them. It should be as simple as that.
Oh, you mean the people that really make the decisions? * EDIT * : eegad, I'm in the wrong forum... must escape.
Note: In Demolition Man, the presidential library includes Schwarzenegger. It's already a done deal. But I think it's too risky. You have one man who has the power to do whatever he wants before the courts and the congress can act against him. It just seems like a bad idea to me. And I know, anybody in the office could have a conflict of interest. Look at GW bush. That is a legitimate argument, but sometimes the people need to be protected against themselves. I don't think it's in the public interest to have a president who was not born in the United States. They have a bias whether they like it or not. It's a conflict of interest that cannot easily be defined like it can in the board room. Therefor you need to eliminate it as an option. If you could objectively eliminate the conflict of interest, which you can't do without hindering the executive power, then it would seem plausible. But you can't. At least you can't do it fast enough in situation of war and state. So it's impossible in my opinion.
you mean the cabinet members staff has all the power. And their interns have power over them, which kinda explain the whole monica lewinsky situation. She had the president by the balls.
How long should they have to be a resident? So are we to totally eliminate the benefits of being an American from Americans? The other thread about illegals has a large number of proponets who say it should be ok Then now we have proponents for Foreigners to be President so my question . . once the border is wide open and EVERYONE ON THE PLANET has a shot at being the most powerful person on the Planet what exactly will being an American mean Will this be the 1st step to a Global Government. . . of sorts? Rocket River
While we're at it let's also change that stupid ammendment about quartering soldiers and the right to bear arms, electoral college,etc.etc.How come there was no big commotion about kissinger?Maybe because he wasn't a movie star with tons of PR. I can see it now Prezident Ahhnold and VP Ventura.
i just wanted to step in and say that rocket river sometimes asks interesting questions...out of the ordinary...i like it. that being said...arnold president? come on
okay, i'll agree. They should'nt change the law anyway because its pointless. if they did, the day a foreigner runs, their patriotism will be questioned, and naturally, xenophobic america won't vote for him or her anyway. case closed, it would have about as much of an impact as enforcing a law saying it's illegal to have oral sex with spiders.
This could be funny: watching the Republican Party implode at the idea of letting for'ners lead America.
Well the day he took office my vehicle license fee went from $246 a year!!! ... all the way down to about $86 a year. That made me plenty happy and I still am with the Gov. It seems to me that most people here are extremely pleased with him as well. Pretty much every proposition he had a position on swung his way. It might just be that since I am in San Diego (a very Republican/Military town) that I feel this way, but it seems like most of CA still loves Ah-nold.
I've been asked for, and I'll put in my two cents... Take your DEAD BODY and Be Civil!! Keep D&D Civil!! And Arnold for Governor of Texas!!!!!
Should a native born Muslim, or someone with foreign parents be allowed to run? Should a well-qualified person be barred from running simpily because he or she came here at a very young age. I don't think being native born equate patriotism. It won't matter who was the President the day when this country was overrun by foreign born voters, don't you think? Amending the constitution here has as much symbolic meaning as a practical one, IMHO.
They are not foreigners; they are Americans who happen to have been foreign-born. The requirement that never goes away is that they be Americans.
Oh, I agree with what you're saying (also agree wholeheartedly with giddyup), its just that our country has enough laws that need changing and its not worth our time to worry about the symbolic ones. Native born definetly does not mean patriotism, but generally, American's think it does, as can be told by the last election, our country is with no question run by white people. If in the last election, people could take an attribute like speaking french and turn that into a negative, changing the law serves no purpose except riling up the country and wasting time over something that won't happen anyway for a long time.
Funny, reading this thread, it seems like it's the other party that has the problem with this idea...
To hell with the country... I'm serious. I want Arnold to move to Texas as soon as he ends his term and run for Governor. If he walked around in his sleep for four years, he would be an improvement over the idiot currently holding that office here. Keep D&D Civil!!
