Schilling has spent millions on a pet project mmo (world of warcraft like game for the older folk). I don't know how he's have time to be a senator and manage his 38 studios company. But, he'd have my vote, since he posts on a forum, fires of heaven, that I read consistently. (mostly nsfw content as a warning) And yes, that is all that someone would need for my vote.
On topic, Schilling is probably like every other professional athlete who realizes his career is over despite his relative youth: sits around the house for a couple months, then starts looking for something to match the thrill and instant gratification / validation of sports. Barkley & Jordan turned to gambling; looks like Schilling is hoping for electoral victory. And, not to further derail (as no one has yet replied with the type of serious response demanded by the provocative query above), but out of all the billions of ideas floating about on the world wide web, if you search right now for the phrase "'Jack Kemp' + Rodan," guess which web entry turns up number 4? That's right: I don't think I've ever been prouder of any life accomplishment. (Once I figure out what specific Japanese missile test freed Rodan from his volcanic tomb, and why the monster is now running a management services corporation that has business dealings with the late Mr. Kemp, then RMI can, and will, suck it: to the moon, Alice, to the moon!)
Schilling is a blowhard. Just because you popped off at the mouth as a player on issues you didn't know about doesn't make you a legit candidate for public office
On the flipside, though - just because he's an athlete doesn't mean he's not a legit candidate for public office. At this point, we don't really know his views on anything outside of international policy, so he could potentially turn himself into a "Massachusetts Republican" like Romney v1.0. I don't think it's worth dismissing just yet, especially given that there's no other real GOP contender out there, and the election is about 4-5 months away.
If Schilling runs I hope he uses this as his campaign song. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RVC9b0K1Iis&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RVC9b0K1Iis&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Don't know about politics but Schilling delivered the World Series to Boston. That ALCS game 6 performance is right up there with Gibson's limping the bases after bombing a slider off Eckersley, as one the greatest performances I have seen in my lifetime. Imagine if Roy ever had one a game like that for the Astros, man I would make him mayor, senator, governor or whatever he wanted for the rest of his life.
Keep this in mind...one thing that Schilling has been known for is that he is a history fanatic. That guy has educated himself tremendously. He may not be a member of MENSA, but he is a smart guy.
Card will be slaughtered. Oh, hey, most liberal state in America: "I was chief of staff for the most hated president in living memory. Didn't like any of Bush's policies? Well, I was the guy in charge of running the place. Vote for me." I trust Schilling in public office over Card.
