I remember I went to the draft night party at Reliant back when we drafted Deshaun. You could just feel the electricity and hope in the air. It felt like we finally got our guy, our elite QB. Now look at us. Incredible.
It's what can happen when you ignore character and pin your hopes on someone who is a scumbag and sexual predator. Hopefully the team learns their lesson and picks more wisely next time
Lol, what an embarrassingly ignorant comment.... pretty much par for the course for you in this forum though. Are you still simpimg for Bill O'Brian BTW?
I'm sorry but there were absolutely zero red flags with Watson out of college. Everyone who worked with him praised his character and work ethic. There was no way the franchise would know about this current predicament. Sexual predators often be like that. How many stories of vaunted members of the community like clergy or pastors come out they've been sexually abusing people for a long time and everyone in the community is shocked?
Not that you or I knew of, but that's why you need to look into these players before you pick them. He didn't start being a terrible person once he got here. You can't go based on fluff
And you can't go based on nothing also. Maybe there was nothing even after a deep dive. Maybe he had this masseuse fetish after he joined the NFL and got a taste of wealth and clout? That's the way things work sometimes. This franchise sucks but I'm not going to fault them for drafting Watson.
They were offered 3 1st rounders. Are they really going to do better than that? Besides one of those picks would probably have put them in position to draft Fields or Jones. And they would have 2 1st rounders in up coming drafts with a cleaner salary cap.
If that is even true, they probably still wanted to convince him to stay at that point. It obviously was before all of the stories came out about him. Him staying still would have been the best outcome for the Texans.
Yeah. Watson deserves all the smoke but I don’t think there was any info around draft time that suggested he’d quit on a team or get into trouble off the field. Bill O brien preferred to draft Mahomes tho apparentley
There are QB desperate teams every year. Some may declare themselves within the season. nobody is going to give max value at the moment and the Texans don’t have a deadline.
Maybe he thought he was doing nothing wrong because he was operating similar to many other NFL players. He just didn't handle his business in a smart, up front manner.
If this offer is slightly less than what they perceive as fair value why wait? Especially if it got you back into what was considered a good draft.
