Don't forget the Browns' 3 winning seasons in what 20 years and only 2 of them resulted in a playoff appearance. Not sure about their attendance during that though.
https://www.outkick.com/the-nfls-strangest-qb-situation-reaches-a-new-plateau-of-weird/ At one point last month, even as everyone in the NFL with a phone understood the situation was bizarre, the Houston Texans were speaking with potential trade partners for quarterback Deshaun Watson. And one team said it would be willing to give the Texans “a first-round pick, and a conditional pick that could turn into a first-round pick,” according to an NFL source whose team was involved in the talks. “But they acted as if we were way off and expected much better.” […] Watson, meanwhile, is going to collect $10.54 million in base salary this season, despite the fact he doesn’t ever want to play for the Texans and the Texans have no intention of ever letting him play for them. […] The Texans spent part of the spring still not seriously engaging teams about a trade, although the Houston Chronicle was the first to report the team would require three first-round picks and two second-rounders to move Watson. “That’s about right, but it’s a negotiation so we figured that would be the starting point,” the NFL source said. “We didn’t think they’d actually be serious about that price with all that’s hanging over his head.” The Texans, represented in trade talks by new general manager Nick Caserio, are apparently serious. From their standpoint, the San Francisco 49ers gave up three first-round picks to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the right to draft Trey Lance, an unproven rookie. They believe Watson, a three-time Pro Bowl player perhaps not yet in his prime, is worth more. And, by the way, that’s what they told the Dolphins themselves when Miami inquired about Watson, per another source. But, but, but what about all the legal troubles? It seems everyone understands they make giving up the significant resources Houston wants for Watson currently impossible. It also seems Houston understands their desire to get top value in exchange for Watson is not currently possible. So the Texans are going to wait for the legal issues to be resolved. And they know if Watson gets to a point where he has a date certain to return to play, his value will climb.
Good for Nick. Don’t let these vultures rape you in a trade. His value is his value. And if they’re willing to trade for him that means they believe he’s probably going to be playing for them. Not getting 10 cents on the dollar
Rumors swirling was that a team offered a 1st round pick and then another conditional 1st round pick. I mean I'd like the guy to go away, but that offer was ridiculous and Caserio should block that GM from ever calling him again.
I agree.....I am all for holding onto him until we get the right value, but if he isn't doing his deposition until Feb who says this mess is cleared up by the draft. The longer this drags out the leverage goes to the bidding team(s), sure it would be great to get 3 number 1`s and 2 second rounders' but I have a feeling if this goes past next years draft we lose leverage, not to mention the new contract kicks in.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. At some point ANYTHING will be better than NOTHING. I can only hope that this game of chicken goes in Caserios favor, but as you stated it doesn't look promising for this mega haul most fans are looking for.
The only way the Texans lose leverage is if he is somehow incarcerated or he suffers an injury. If the Texans were actually trying to be good right now, waiting would also hurt… alas they’re not nor should they.
Jay Glazer: I don’t see a scenario where Deshaun Watson ever plays for the Texans again. The wild part is he is still working out for the team because he is still on their active roster but they’re keeping him separated from everybody else on the roster. They want this to be Tyrod Taylor’s team. Lately, they’ve let it be known “Oh, he could be traded for three ones plus a combination of three picks and players.” They already had that. They had three ones and three threes going into the draft. They had four teams really interested back then. They said “Absolutely not, we’re not trading him.” Weren’t taking any of the offers. I think they really overshot their step in this. And those four teams, most of them have all dropped out by the way.
Yikes if this is true they really messed up. It’s okay to take 75 cents on the dollar if it allows the organization to move on and start the rebuild.
