Aw, I was just tweaking you about Hey Now, I can see this same discussion happening everywhere today in the NFL (well, maybe not in Jacksonville, Buffalo or Cleveland). In fact, I just heard two Dallas radio talking heads allude to how the Cowboys aren't as far away from being Super Bowl contenders because the Giants win just showed that flawed teams can get hot at the right time and win the Super Bowl. Of course they made the obligatory Eli-Romo comparisons (Why if Romo & Miles Austin had just connected on that lob pass the Cowboys would have been right there last night). Of course, this ignores the tiny fact that unlike the Cowboys, the Giants don't have Jerry Jones running their organization but who am I to point this out? Pretty David gets to watch the Super Bowl from the best seat in the house and gets a ring to boot. Life is good...
if you look at the tools that both have now that they are fully matured do you think it would be an easy choice? Oh and if this draft was the Clutch Draft then hell yes. 8 fourth quarter comebacks this season...8.
was it an easy choice when Rogers finished the season 15-1 while Manning barely eeked into the playoffs? Manning got hot at the right time, not to mention he didn't have to shake off any rust because of a bye. I think that's what hurt Rogers. The Packers clinched way too early and then they started resting Rogers. He basically took 3 weeks off before that home playoff game. I could never argue that Manning is a better QB than Rogers from what I've seen as a whole. i'm not even disagreeing that Eli is a better QB than Schaub. I just think the reason given that Eli has won more playoff games makes him better is silly. If you said Eli has a stronger arm, can escape the pocket, is more accurate than I can live with that.
Post #1 - I think Eli is better than Schaub. Post #2 - LOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!11 You're just a Houston homer!!! Eli is better than Schaub!!!!!11 I've been saying this for years and everyone has been laughing at me!!!!!! I'm going to post pics of him holding a Superbowl trophy to prove that I'm right and you're wrong!!!!!!!1111
He's the Awe shucks Assassin. A question, If you have to choose a quarterback to win a Superbowl game and your choice was Eli or Aaron who would you choose? Rodgers may be the perfect Mold of what a QB should be but Eli has that something (goofy looking and all) that allows him to step up and deliver in money time. Who's the better QB? The one who starts and looks great all through the race or the one who always comes from behind and wins the race?
so you basically flip flop every year then? Rogers was better last year because he won the race. It's Eli this year. Who is it next?
No, but you seem to disregard Eli as if he were some luck driven QB while lifting Rodgers as being more capable. Give Eli the credit he's due. He has "Brady'd" one of the best QB's of our generation twice and people still think he's just not that good?
Eli is not in Rodgers' league. The Giants won the SB because they were a far more balanced team than any that they played.
ultimately, it's a team game. and i never said anything about luck. Eli undoubtedly excelled in the playoffs. all things being equal, Eli isn't a better QB than Rogers, Brees, or Peyton regardless of the number of rings.
That guy has 2 posts in the entire thread and aside from his opening grenade post really hasn't been participating in the debate at all.
There are a few characteristics of Eli that puts him in the "elite" tier of quarterbacks: 1) Clutch play: after 2007 and this year, there should be no doubt that this is the guy you want on your team down 4 with 1:30 left starting from your 20. 2) Calm under pressure: it is literally impossible to rattle Eli Manning nowadays. Early on he would duck from sacks and throw bad passes, but he's matured to the point where he'll throw it away or take a strategic hit. If you watched the 49ers game, you'll see how he was literally pummeled (hit 20 times, as much as your average running back!) and didn't turn it over once. If that was Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, they'd be on the floor or shortarming it all game. 3) Big play ability: Outside of maybe Rodgers, Brees, and bigger Manning, Eli has perhaps the best big play ability of quarterbacks in the league today. 4) Control of Offense: He is as good as his brother in diagnosing and adjusting to opposing schemes. There is a reason why Eli Manning is widely known as one of the more/most difficult QBs to sack DESPITE the fact that he is not very mobile compared to Rodgers, Brees, or Vick. Eli Manning literally carried his team this season. Sure, he has a stinker here or there, but he just gets it done (and often in dramatic fashion). The Giants had multiple starters lost on defense for part/the entire season, a reshuffled O-line, non-existant run game, and absolute crap defense for much of the year, and yet the only constant that kept them from falling apart was the play of Eli Manning. 15 4th Quarter TDs and 6 comeback victories in the regular season combined with outplaying Rodgers, Brady, and the 49ers D? Damn, if that's not Elite than I don't know what is. The question is really whether he should be HoF bound, and that really depends on how consistently he performs at this level in years to come.
