ya, I guess you missed how he intercepted Kaepernick just 40 seconds after sacking him for a nine-yard loss. then there was that play where he handed the ball off *to himself* on 3rd and 17 and ran for 22. pshyeah. that's the Texans problem: we don't have *that* guy. he won that whole damn superbowl all by himself.

If the Texans swapped Flacco and Schaub, how much better would their Super Bowl chances be?

Vegas set the line for 2014 for both teams at 14-1.

Physically he is still average. And I'm not trying to argue with you, but the only true skill that he has is accuracy. But even then due to his weak arm that is not that huge of a skill either. He is one of the most immobile QB's in all the NFL, can't run a hurry up offense, can't call audibles (not sure if its on him or Kubiak), and has an extremely weak arm. Again physically average.

NOW mentally!!!!!! He showed this year that he was mentally broken. I mean it was even apparent in the Pro-Bowl that he was still feeling the affects of the pressure buildup. Can he get over this, I'm really not sure. Especially since he is what????? 30?? 31???32?? He is not a young player who is barely learning, he is who he is. Based on this years stats, he is a great QB when the games have little significance. But when they are important, he is "a big-game turd" (warren sapp)..

so physically average + mentally weak= ?????????? QB

Ok, so Joe Flacco didn't win it by himself. We get that. But are you saying that if we had Joe Flacco rather than Matt Schaub, our chances of winning the superbowl wouldn't be better?????? Are you saying that Matt Schaub is as good as Joe Flacco (Schaub = Flacco)?

    bug-eyed surprise!!!!

until six games ago, there was no argument. Schaub was better, and it wasn't really close.

now, I'm not so sure. dude fell off a cliff. since the Texans really don't have the option of trading Schaub for your new man-crush, we will just have to wait and see whether he's done or not.

for the Texans' sake, I hope he's better than what we saw the last six weeks. 'cause he flat-out sucked.

I love how guys are bashing Flacco and belittling his Super Bowl MVP performance, to make excuses for Schaub's weak play. Amazing. Bottom line Schaub needs to grow a pair & come up big in big games.

The individual results haven't been so... who cares? Really? There are no perfect QBs (expect for Aaron Rodgers); they all have limitations.

I wouldn't use the term "broken" - not yet, anyway. And I don't get the age factor: this is about experience. At 31, he's made roughly the same number of regular season starts as Joe Flacco.

The reason I'm not shutting the door: people are arbitrarily picking and choosing what constitutes a big game and - surprise! – their definition of a big game is almost universally one in which he played poorly.

In 2011, they lost AJ and Schaub had played poorly in two consecutive games - both losses to drop our record to 3-3. In week 7, we traveled to a suddenly scary 3-2 Tennessee... And Schaub was awesome and the Texans d-stomped the Titans, 41-7. Was that a big game? Heck yeah, it was. Maybe not now, a year and a half later - but I guarantee you, if you pulled up the thread, people were nervous and anxious that week...

Schaub lead the Saints 26-17 in the 4Q last year before his defense gave up 23 points; he beat Pittsburgh after losing AJ in the first half. And he was very nearly flawless against Denver, Baltimore and the Colts this year. All together, against those elite teams, Schaub was: 99/158 (63%); 1,318 yards; 11 TDs; 2 INTs; 8.3 YPA; 106.9 QBR; 4-1 record. Yeah, but… it wasn’t at night; yeah, but… Cris Collinsworth wasn’t in the booth, yeah, but… games in September don’t count (unless he loses!) – or, whatever……

He played poorly down the stretch; it’s concerning. But his history isn’t filled with big-game chokes, nor is it devoid of playing well in big games against quality opponents.

It is ridiculous how before this season no one would take Flacco over Schaub. NO ONE. Now people act like they have been touting Flacco as better all along. ESPN talking head Merrill Hoge even claimed this morning that Flacco was the best QB in all of the NFL. I understand that you are only as good as your last game and Flacco was superbowl MVP(Which basically is the trend lately among the team who wins the superbowl). It is just the extreme Flacco love needs to stop.

Not bashing his performance. Bashing the people who all of a sudden are his biggest fans and saying he would lead the Texans to the Super Bowl.

What happened to mobile QBs like III and Russell Wilson being the future of the NFL?

And I love how you make things up... please cite a post in which we bashed Flacco and/or belittled his Super Bowl MVP performance. Given that they're remarkably similar, in terms of games started, career statistics, hatred among their respective fan groups (prior to winning the Super Bowl), Flacco is the poster child for exactly why the Texans are probably OK with Matt Schaub...

    No, we're talking physically.

IIRC Schaub has a reputation of being an average (or below average) armed QB who can't make all the throws in the route tree, and Flacco has the opposite reputation

Maybe that's just punditocracy propagating a conventional wisdom that isn't actually true, but if it is true, then I see it as a lot less likely that he can replicate flacco, when flacco can physically do things that he can't.

Yes, Schaub is below average physically in all aspects. But we've always had a pretty good offense with him until the last 6 games of last year, that is.

Ok, you are right. He started of the year phenomenally and that's why we had a thread started about Schaub being an ELITE QB. Sorry to inform you of this but its not how you start the year its how you finish it off. I don't have a man-crush on Joe Flacco , I just don't have a man crush on schaub like you and kubiak. I can actually come to my senses and see the facts. Joe Flacco has his best games when the games actually counted (hence playoffs)

OH and do you want to know what happen to Schaub? He broke under pressure and has yet to recuperate (hence probowl performance). And I mean Schaub isn't a young QB, this is his 8th year. I seriously think he has already peaked.

There is no way that we can compare Flacco to these new up and coming QB's. However, he is extremely more mobile than Schaub. And can make deep accurate passes while he is on the run. Schaub can't make deep accurate passes while is in the pocket...

For all the talk about waiting people need to understand that this team is not going to get better. They have peaked. They are capped out. They've cut pro-bowlers to pay Scahub and they cut even more if they want to keep Cushing and Watt.

Unless Rick Smith can suddenly become the best talent evaluator in the NFL the Texans have nowhere to go but down. Andre is getting older; Daniels is not the same and their promising WR just got hit with what could be a career altering injury.

"We have no choice", "He might be good enough if this or if that".

Wanna wait? Be my guest but If Kubiak is smart he'll look for a QB that could save his job in this draft even if it's a crap shoot.
