Some reporter has said that his sources say the Texans will draft a QB "early" in the draft. I can't recall his name but they were talking about it on 610 this morning.

Hard to argue with him really. Schaub had 9 touchdowns to 8 interceptions vs playoff teams this year. If his strength is being a "game manager" who doesn't make big mistakes, then he failed even in that regard when it mattered most.

This would be a good thing.Maybe not a solution, but it would show that they're not going to let this take place any longer. I have always been a strong Supporter of #8, but this year it was clearly obivious that he would crumble when the game had any kind of importance to it. Does it actually Happen? Well thats something only time will tell.

Yet, some will place those pedestrian #s on a pedestal and proclaim them ELITE.

    Sigh...

and some just blindly bash and like to be a jerk rubbing the fans noses in a loss.

You and Hey are actually a lot alike. Firmly entrenched, yet neither one is particularly right, but somewhere between lies the fair, objective, truth.

Jim Rome: Matt, good to have you on the show.

Matt Schaub: Good to be here Jim, thank you...

JR: ...Check that! Laurie Schaub, good to have you on the show!...

Not sure, but this might be the source:

    Sounds about right.

    If I had to guess:

Virtually no chance they take a QB in the first unless something insane happens like Geno Smith falling to them.

Slim chance they take one in the second, unless they really LOVE Mike Glennon, Tyler Wilson, or Matt Barkley and he is there. (not completely implausible)

Small but real chance they take someone in the third - we should have two picks at the end of this round, and Barkley's stock especially is tenuous at present. If he were to fall this far, he starts gaining serious value. Add Ryan Nassib to the mix, but be aware that this QB class does not bring a lot of excitement at present.

50-50 chance or better that the Texans take someone in rounds 4-7. I consider these to be the bonus rounds (especially 5-7) were teams can be a little more free to chase dragons. We should have an additional pick somewhere in here as well (probably 6th round). E.J. Manuel and Landry Jones probably round out the very short list of 2013 QB "name" prospects, but who knows who the scouts and Kubiak have an eye on.

Looking at our Kubiak QB draft history, it's clear that, like most positions, this team does not get caught up in big names. When it comes to skill positions (and even line), they have generally gone after under the radar types.

    (Schaub - 3rd rd, 2004)
    Alex Brink: 2008, 7th
    TJ Yates: 2010, 5th
    Keenum: Undrafted FA

Another reason I think it's unlikely you'll see someone taken in rounds 1-3 is that it will absolutely unsettle Schaub and ruin whatever value he has left. Guys take it very poorly when they see their replacement get drafted. Take someone in round 4 or later and you can keep your starter relaxed telling him it's just another backup. If you take someone early, you better not blow it, because you'll be stuck with an unhappy starter with no confidence and a bust rookie that can't step in.

I know we're unhappy with how Schaub went down the toilet, but things can always get worse. Ask Arizona or the Jets.

^Screw what Schaub thinks. If he can't handle the pressure of some legit competition, he doesn't deserve to be a starting QB in this league.

    Point of parliamentary procedure!

As someone who has not posted too many kind words about Matt Schaub since roughly Thanksgiving (to cite just four of *many* examples), and who has fully admitted he took bathroom breaks in his bed the final six weeks of the season, so much so that I now have legitimate concerns about his and the team’s future... I'm curious on just which points I'm entrenched? Further, I'd ask you to find a ubigred post in which his praise for Schaub is as glowing as my criticism was cutting.

I mean… I might have a healthy dose of self-delusion – but while I’ve defended Schaub’s play as it was evolving, I’ve always, for example, cited his lack of a signature win and postseason success. I would again argue my objectivity trumps ubigred (who only crawls out of his hole when things are going bad).

Further, as a long-time Schaub defender – for you to call me entrenched is… well, kettle/pot territory. Heck-fire, I'd argue I'm less entrenched than you - can cite the posts where you've dumped all over Schaub?

And with that I say good day, sir. I said, “GOOD DAY!”

(sound of feet walking out of the room, door slams)

Listening to 790, they did an interview with Trent Dilfer who had a lot of good insight about the Texans and Schaub. Dilfer speculates that Schaub wasn't healthy at the end of the season. He talked about how throwing the football is not an "arm" thing, it's a "rotational force" thing and how problems in the shoulder, hips, or feet and affect that. That if that drops, then you can't make the throws you're used to making and it affects your confidence. He didn't present it as "Schaub is old and now he's done", but just said that getting strong and healthy in the offseason is a priority.

Just speculation but I can see hit having some validity. Schaub did look more "scared" later in the season and maybe there was some physical basis for that, losing confidence in what his abilities are.

    What's the difference?

If any of Schaub's backers take Trent Dilfer's speculation as proof that Schaub is still "Elite" then they'll have to admit that Schaub is still Injury prone.

    Sucks to be them

I sure hope his surgically-repaired foot wore down as the season progressed; that'd be somewhat comforting.

You guys are constantly setting up these strawmen - are there still people arguing he's elite? Are there people *not* pointing a finger at him for the way this season collapsed? Who are these posters? Show us...

Sure - some of us don't believe six games should redefine a QB we watched consistently perform at a high level for the 62 previous games and are willing to leave the door cracked... but is anyone outright arguing Schaub isn't a concern entering 2013?

Not me: He's not elite; he was a big reason this season ended terribly; and he's a concern entering 2013. "Yeah, but..... oh, wait. Never mind..........."

Is this how it's going to be now - any post that doesn't savagely eviscerate Schaub will lead to a parade of posters jumping up and down on his pitiful season-ending performance? We ALL get it; we ALL agree....... can we move on a bit?

to be honest I don't even read 80% or your posts because they are too long, but I just used you as the opposing side to ubigred because y'all had the most back and fourth and you started this thread

    1. Admit Schaub was never elite.
    2. Request the closing of this thread.
    3. Next season, when Schaub puts up the same numbers against sub-par comp, DO NOT make a thread. Just congratulate him in a game thread.

I have no ill will towards you.

    Thanks.

I would need a box made of fresh, clean Wyoming air to contain all the care I have for your opinion of me. "Admit this; do that - oh, did you not hear I've won an internet fight?" What a delusional, self-important twerp, LOL.
