Low TDs in a passing league coupled with the inability to improvise. You can't argue against that.

Or maybe the running game has produced 19 rushing touchdowns.

You usually don't get three high pressure games in a row against quality teams unless you win in the playoffs.

Charlie Casserly (former Texans GM) on Schaub (just now on NFL channel Around the League):
I don't completely agree with this, but it's not like he's saying anything ground-breaking. It be foolish to say this sentiment is entirely wrong. It is depressing.

Despite these past few weeks of offensive ineptitude we ended up 8th in scoring in the NFL.

Flacco and Ponder should not be anywhere on a list of top QBs. Brees and Big Ben should be. Romo, Eli, Stafford, Rivers and Kaepernick should probably be in the general range as well.

I think it's just his list of playoff QBs and he didn't rank his bottom 6.

It would be accurate then to say that there's a huge dropoff from Manning/Brady/Rodgers and the second tier of QBs (where Schaub is at) is a tossup at this point. You have the X-factors like Luck, RG3, and Wilson but I don't consider Ryan or Flacco to be any better than Schaub (not enough anyway that there's a difference in talent).

There are of course varying degrees of pressure. The pattern for Schaub when expectations are raised has not been good. I actually think this late season collapse will help him perform better in the playoffs since everyone has written the Texans off. It seems counter-intuitive but the Texans would almost be better off going to NE with no expectations whatsoever than host them as the favorite and the high amount of pressure that would go along with that scenario.

    He makes the safe throws
Which can be a problem when you ar e 3rd and 8
and the safe throw is a 2 yd out pattern

I agree. To add on to that, I am sure the Texans remember the beating they got first hand from the Patriots.

I blame Gary, but unfortunately I'm beginning to blame his decision back in March 2007. He basically got Kubiak Jr., someone who thinks just like him. I even think Kubes wanted someone who he would have been had he ever became a fulltime starter in the NFL, as there are no other reason why a guy who coached Elway and Steve Young would want the athletic antithesis of those guys.

Who calls the shots in the NFL? The coaching staff. Schaub makes the reads: we already complain about 12 interceptions for a whole year, now you want him to take gambles?

Perhaps he's keenly aware of what he has to work with and is afraid of what could happen if more decisions were put in some else's hands - can you really blame him?

The stat is Texans have not scored a TD on a drive that they have suffered a sack.

When he doesn't have ideal conditions.......

I guess you missed the two prior 3rd down plays before that bubble screen?

    3-4-HOU 37 (5:31) (Shotgun) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 81-O.Daniels pushed ob at HOU 43 for 6 yards (20-D.Butler).

    3-13-IND 46 (2:43) (Shotgun) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 11-D.Posey to IND 30 for 16 yards (35-J.Lefeged; 50-J.Freeman).

    Then there were these...

    3-1-HOU 25 (14:08) (Shotgun) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 80-A.Johnson to HOU 27 for 2 yards (23-V.Davis).

    3-5-IND 43 (11:38) (Shotgun) 8-M.Schaub pass short right to 83-K.Walter to IND 29 for 14 yards (41-A.Bethea).

    3-12-HOU 45 :)17) (Shotgun) 8-M.Schaub pass deep right to 83-K.Walter to IND 33 for 22 yards (32-C.Vaughn).

Schaub was 5 of 8 on 3rd down conversions with his passes, fyi.

Clearly Gary trusts him to sling it, but sometimes his playcalling is just... dumb.
