Well Mr. Dufresne, I can agree with you on part of this. I'd be okay with the Texans using a 2nd or 3rd on a QB they like to develop. Doubt this will happen since it seems they are happy with Yates as backup, and potential future QB. A couple scenarios where Schaub can actual get replaced for the Schaub haters. 1. Texans lose their next two games and are out of the playoffs early. This could incite a QB change. 2. Schaub is due to get hurt next season. When Schaub goes down for a few games how does Yates perform as the starter with a few seasons under his belt? If he plays well I could see a Alex Smith/Kaepernick situation. 3. Next season the team falls apart and all coaches are fired.
Big Ben is 1-3 against AFC West, and the only win was against KC in OT, and the winning play was on the defensive side. Big Ben choked in the last two games with 2 very costly INTs. He sucks, the Steelers should get Alex Smith.
Maybe, but as long as you already have a good QB, why not try to hit on such a chance? Basically what happened with the Pats. They had Drew Bledsoe, took some guy in the 6th round that ended up being one of the greatest players in history. If the Texans had a top pick, no problem, but they don't. This year in the 3rd round they could have had Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins in the 4th. How many 1st round picks in recent years would you take over Schaub? Stafford, Luck & RG3 the Texans had no chance at. The one guy you might rather have that the Texans were in a position to possibly obtain is Josh Freeman.
Most folx think Yates can be the Lightning in a Bottle In any instance . . . The Texans need to start grooming someone for life after Schaub How many more years do you think Schuab has of being good? Rocket River
Schaub is going to be the QB until either: 1) Gary gets fired 2) He has a career ending injury 3) His contract runs out It's time for everybody to come to grips with this.
Agreed; I haven't seen how they've structured his contract, but there's no way they're going to cut ties with him after giving him all that money anytime soon. Warts and all, he's our guy for the foreseeable future. Speaking of warts, I'm really starting to question how the Texans have approached the last quarter of the season. It's very reminiscent of last year when Kubiak and team went into "Operation shutdown" after clinching the division and a 3-seed. They condensed the playbook and didn't take very many chances on offense while being content to just play defense and see if they can steal a win. They came out and played more open and aggressive in the playoffs, so that's somewhat encouraging. You just never know how Schaub is going to react on that bigger stage since he hasn't been there yet. Also, they've got to keep his pocket clean, I think his internal clock is making him rush his throws even when there's not a big rush in front of him. Pete Prisco (link) wrote about this in a recent column. There are some really good screen grabs off of the All-22 film that I'd encourage ya'll to check out. You couple this analysis with Schaub missing an "easy" read in the New England game (forcing a ball down the field - which led to an INT - while Foster was all alone on the checkdown), and you start to think that Schaub is hurrying his throws/reads to prevent being hit after taking more sacks here lately. We know he can stand in the pocket and deliver balls down the field to his targets, but more and more, it's getting harder and harder to see him back there rushing through progressions and getting happy feet.
NOPE! Stick to your guns. How one responds to adversity is what is most important. I did. He's good, not great.
Can we kill the whole Schaub is elite talk? Let's just agree he is a good QB at best but never a great one. He may have great moments and we can win the SB with him (but only if everything, and I mean everything, goes right.) Let's just be happy we don't have Gabbert but let's never mention him again in Brady or Manning's level again.
