Haha, the biggest difference between Eli and Schaub is that Eli is fearless and clutch, same as Flacco. The total OPPOSITE of Schaub, who can't handle the pressure and chokes in big games.

    Blah blah blah.

This is the QB we have for the 2013-2014 season.

I'm tired of hearing the word "elite" and Schaub together. He's an above average starting NFL quarterback period. He needs a lot of components around him to complement him.

There are only a few elite QBs in the NFL and Eli isnt one of them. Just bc you win a Superbowl doesnt make you elite.

Get back to me on this when/if Schaub wins a Super Bowl.

And trust me I will be the first to say I was wrong aboutb Schaub if he's able to pull it off.

Eli required a defense that was otherworldy against some of the best competition to win his 2 Super Bowls. So no, I wouldn't say he's elite.

However, it does show how utterly awesome the Texans defense has to be in order for us to win. It literally has to be able to match up against QBs like Brady, Manning, Rodgers and beat the utter crap out of them. And the only time I've seen such a defense in the entire Texans history was 2011. Odds that they can repeat that with this group? I'm not optimistic.

Peyton won his superbowl while playing like junk in the playoffs because his defense, which was not good, played above their level in the playoffs. I think it's well within the realm of possibility for Schaub to play well, the defense to kick it up in the playoffs and Arian to get hot all at the same time and get the trophy. But, that illustrates that it's more about luck than the qb. Everyone wants to blame the qb, but Schaub would have to have played like the greatest ever to beat the pats last year the way our defense played that game.

    I've followed this 7 years.

In order for "national TV" to mean anything, it'd mean that somehow the "pressure" and STAKES are MORE on TV than not. When really national TV can just mean its more eyeballs watching and more armchair pundits making opinions. And people start making arbitrary measures of "respect" based on that. When in the other 13 games they DIDNT see, they can be awesome. So its anecdotal account instead of entirely accurate.

(What if you only play good on national TV, but like poop the other games? Anyway..)

Though yes not gonna change the definition of "national tv" games. National games means GOOD TEAMS are playing, so it generally IS a BIGGER test based on higher QUALITY of OPPONENT. And players DO play for PRESTIGE, EXPOSURE and RESPECT, so the other team is coming in more PUMPED and you gotta be MORE motivated than them.

The problem is that I don't think I've ever seen a Texans defense shut down a great offense. Was there ever a time when the top QBs like Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, Brady DIDN'T put up big numbers against us? The only time I remember this happening was maybe Matt Ryan looked crappy in 2011.

I subscribe to luck in the NFL, but I want to at least see a glimmer of hope first where our defense on a good day can make even Brady pedestrian.

So, if Schaub has a great week 1...then does that mean he's turned the corner on this "cant play on national tv" thing?

Or, do we not count that one because it's the Chargers?

solid point but it has little to do with brady/brees/rodgers. Henne had a better game than brady, Stafford had his best game of the season against us. It has a lot to do because Wade loving to play man.

If your example of an elite QB is Joe Flacco, I think I can rest my case.

True. But the Hennes of the world have good games and horrible games. That's just normal. Every elite defense has given up abnormally good performances to mediocre QBs. But every elite defense has also made pro-bowl QBs look like Chad Henne.

9th in the league? More like 3rd on the team.

I think he meant that sarcastically, since people were eluding to Flacco being elite for winning a Superbowl.

one thing I will say in favor of schaub, kevin walter really hindered that entire offense. I liked him but replacing him with youth and speed has helped the entire offense

This is what people are choosing to ignore. Schaub doesn't play defense. He can't stop the opposing offense from having it's way with the Texans D. The Texans put as much points on the Patriots as the Ravens did last year. The difference was how many points the defense allowed Tom Brady. Schaub was not the only problem in that game. He wasn't even the biggest problem. The biggest problem was the defense. Yet somehow it was all #8's fault.

yea but when the giants needed their qb to make a play he made plays.. enough of the elite/non-elite bs.. im sure you can look through all the stats and prove schaub has been much better than eli through both their careers.. the difference between these two guys is eli has already proven he can win the big games. for schaub to win th ebig games, the texans d has to be above great. they also have to keep schaub in a siutation where hes comfortable. no deficits, he cant be in a position where he needs to go toe to toe with big arm qbs. our defense has to be shut down.. i dont see it.. our d could be great, but at some point our qb is going to have to make a play or two that isnt in the playbook. hes going to need to evade a sack and beat a defender. were not going to bootleg our way to a superbowl..

half of those points werent scored until late in the game when it was already over. its tough to keep brady down when the offense is giving him the ball right back..
