I liked it. Spent most of falling asleep time last night devising what I would do if I were in this situation. I would feel bad for spreading it, so first I thought I would fly overseas and give it to a hooker or something, but while that would buy me some time, maybe enough for a lifetime, there wasn't a finality to it, plus the morality of it was meh. Second plan was since it is seemingly bound by physics, I would trap it in a cage, dig hole, put the cage in the hole, fill with cement and be done with it. That's probably the best solution. Also couldn't figure out if this was supposed to be set in the 80s or everyone was just really poor. Seemed like the 80s except for the twizzler girl's seashell e-reader.
well i watched it just now. it was very good, although not perfect. i think one of the reasons it got good reviews is because of some the acting. the mannerisms of the actors sometimes was fairly unique. otherwise it is worth watching. it just was missing a few things, some of which were already stated in the thread.
Finally got around to watching this movie for a Halloween scary movie. It was pretty tense, not many major scares, just made you feel really uncomfortable from suspense and nudity. The acting was really good, but yeah, as a scary movie, it was filled with plot holes and the like. This is probably what I'd do, too. I'd fly to Thailand and get a hooker, who will give it to someone else. It'd get passed around a lot to locals or other sex tourists that you could buy yourself a lifetime of distance. Homeboy in the movie had the right idea when he drove past some hookers. I'd rate this similar to others, somewhere around a 7/10. For a horror movie, it was actually pretty refreshing not to have cheap scares. Funny note: not knowing where it was filmed, I jokingly thought it was Detroit because of the lake and how crappy all the run down houses looked. Few minutes later in the pool, you see Detroit mentioned. What an iconic city!
There is a few genuinley creepy moments and visuals, it's also unique in terms of the idea. I would recommend it, not like there is much better horror movie options out there.
Just saw this film, and I have to say that it has so much going for it. ****spoiler alert ***** Here's why I think it is great. The myth as an original concept borrows from some of the greatest films in the genre. Below I list them. Monster can be anybody. This has echos of Nightmare on Elm Street's idea that you are not sure if you are dreaming or if you need to run for your life. The setting can be normal, It follows's monster can be normal. In fact, as an audience member you are constantly looking for THE MONSTER as you are watching the film. Just like in Nightmare you are always looking for clues to see if this is a death scene (a freddy scene) or if it is not. Monster Stalks. This is obvious. Halloween. It is relentless just like Micheal Myers is. How you get/pass the curse. Sex. In just about every horror film, you are usually dead meat after you have sex. Usually the only one that survives is the pure virgin. The stalk. The way the monster stalks is George A Romero-like in that it has a zombie feel to it. If you pass it on, and monster gets them, you are next. Final Destination. The other unique part about the film that is wholly original to the horror franchise is that once you pass on the curse, you now have a vested interest in making sure that the person you pass it onto KNOWS it. This is kinda like Scream in the sense that Scream was the first movie to use knowledge of other horror films to survive the slasher. But again, this is original. Also, I'm not sure it is beneficial to be able to have to many people be able to see the monster, you need people to verify that they can't see it. I think the reason why people don't like it is that the monster only records 2 kills in the entire film and only 1 is seen. But again, I think this can be a strength of the film. It is borrowing from films like Jaws with this. The ending is bad, no getting around it, though.
