BTW, I would have to vote for 'The Exorcist' as the scariest movie I've ever seen. The scene where she crawls down the steps upside-down and then pukes blood ... that's about as disturbing a scene as I can take. Well shot/edited too. It's a short scene and it just comes out of nowhere.
1. The exorcist 2. The shining 3. The original Alien comercial. I remember having bad dreams about that stupid egg for months when I was a kid. 4. distant fouth is fear no evil. That scene where he made the dude have boobs was crazy.
Incidentally, if nobody has seen it, the restored version DVD of the Exorcist is excellent. The film restoration work is amazing. Gives the movie an extra edge for some reason. I don't know, I don't really think movies are scary. The Exorcist and Shining were great creepy movies, but it is not the same. The Ring was not in the least bit scary or even disturbing. Some of the mystery story was interesting, but overall I thought it was lame.
From Dusk till Dawn. Ok, I lied - but the Salma Hayek stripper scene in it just before they all turned into vampires was great.
That's like 4 or 5 people in this thread that have dissed the ring. That makes me happy. The tape was bleh, the girl coming out of the tv was way too stupid to be scary, and for people being scared of the tv afterwards, As far as movies that have scared me, Aliens The Shining Halloween zombie movies Friday the 13th but eh, I haven't gotten scared from a movie since my balls dropped.
The Ring was pretty good, but it just wasn't nearly as well done or scary as The Shining or a few other classics named in this thread.
i don't know, i've never heard as much screaming in a theater as when that happened. i wasn't screaming (i only gasp at most when stuff jumps out of nowhere) but there were a good amount of people doing it. the overall noise in the theater the whole time she was crawling towards him and then when she just transported to different places instantly was as loud as i've heard for a scary moment ever. i don't know what other people's theaters sounded like when that happened, but it was pretty big in my mostly packed one.
maybe i need to sit down and watch the exorcist all the way through and not on tv or something b/c all of the stuff i've seen from it wasn't scary in the least. certainly not up there with the ring or the shining.
You're not kidding. I remember seeing that with my parents and older sister. Afterwards, we sort of stumbled out in a daze. We constantly went to the movies. Many times I saw films as a kid that someone that age wouldn't have seen today because of the ratings. Heck, Rear Window had some very frightening moments. Like Kubrick, Hitchcock was a genius. After Psycho, filmmakers felt they could really push the boundaries of mainstream movies.
The thought of a paranormal entity coming from the TV (ESP?) is lame but Space aliens, and unstoppable non dead Psyco killers arent? No offense man. Just made me say "uhhh?"
I watch alot of horror films, but I wouldn't say any have scared me since I was in elementary school. Mostly, I hope for one or two good "jump" scenes. However, here are a few disturbing films... Martin -George Romero's take on the vampire lore (the vampire as a sexual deviant/predator). Rosemary's Baby - The conception scene in particular, but this whole movie is a trip. L.I.E. - I hated this movie right after watching it, but I also think about it alot. Definitely a movie that avoids simple characterizations of people who do vile things. A Clockwork Orange - It makes light of some pretty awful acts.
I'm not sure this is the most scary movie ever, but it is by far the most entertaining scary movie ever: House of 1000 Corpses I really didn't expect much out of the film initially because it was directed by Rob Zombie, but the acting was surprisingly good. While the plot resembles Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I think it takes that element and adds some additional strange and gory elements to it. I liked it a lot. They actually had a sequel out called The Devil's Reject. I never got to catch it while it was in theatre, but I'd imagine the DVD is out by now, and I need to go rent it.
What exactly is so hard to understand about that? Yes I think I'd be scared of aliens or a serial killer or zombies(if I got scared by anything in movies anymore) long before I'd be scared of some dip**** pulling themselves out of their tv. Apparently Wes Craven was ahead of his time with Shocker. Can't wait til they make a movie about evil cell phones that bite off your ears. Or leftover food crawling out of the fridge with an appetite for revenge. oooooooh creeepy,
Ringu scared the **** out of me and one movie that many people trash ,but i think is scary and disturbing is nicolas cage 8mm.
