iPods allow you to listen to full albums. You can even set it to randomly play full albums. Most everything you said are the same things that were being said by those who resisted CDs in the early 80s. With the new color /photo iPods you will be able to view artwork and liner notes. Soon Apple will have one that plays videos that can be downloaded from iTunes. I tell you, it was hard at first, but letting go of my CDs (after ripping them all) was very liberating. My 20 gig iPod currenty has about 4500 songs on it which about 1/4 of my collection. It's pretty cool having a pocket jukebox. Now that I can play it through my car stereo, my 6-disk changer is worthless.
New stuff that came today: "Best of Bowie" - David Bowie "Lust for Life" - Iggy Pop "Electric Warrior" - T Rex "His 'N' Hers" - Pulp "Soon Over Babaluma" - Can "Transformer" - Lou Reed "Suede" - Suede "New Skin for the Old Ceremony" - Leonard Cohen "The Idiot" - Iggy Pop "Diamond Dogs (Special 30th Anniversary Edition)" - David Bowie
actually, the mars volta guys were not in sparta. close though. members of sparta and mars volta used to be at the drive in. atdi basically splintered in half, with the more talented members going to mars volta and the guys w/ significantly less talent forming sparta. if you like dub, check out defacto, which is the mars volta guys doing really drugged out, spacey dub. this was their side project while atdi was still going on.
I've been listening to a lot of acoustic blues fingerpicking recently. I just picked up The Very Best of the Reverend Gary Davis - Heroes of the Blues CD and The Best of Blind Blake.
Have you listened to the Suede's eponymous debut album before? GREAT album. I still remember when I got this back in 93. Obviously it was heavily influenced by glam era Bowie. Look for some nice guitar licks courtesy of Bernard Butler. Also grab the EP "Stay Together" that was released right after.
Widespread Panic- Till the Medicine Takes Snow Patrol- Final Straw The Scabs- More than a Feeling The Mars Volta- Frances the Mute Kaiser Chiefs- Employment Mustard Plug- Evildoers Beware
I'm constantly amazed by the sheer quantity of music some of y'all listen too. That said, I got this new album by this Canadian singer named Feist. It has a very 70'sish "trip-hop" type sound to it, if you are into that kind of stuff. And it is the type that gets better the more you listen to it, even though it is pretty good in the first place.
I was wondering if anyone has the new System of a Down cd "Mezmerize", any thoughts comments? I know allmusic gave it a high rating, I really like the new single is the whole album pretty solid?
Mesermize is okay. On par with Toxicity in my opinion. But I read somewhere that System of a Down made a bunch of songs at the same time. They split all of them into two groups, put all the songs they thought weren't as good in one group and put the songs they liked in another. The first group (the bad group) is Mesermize and the second group (the good one) is going to be released as "Hypnotize".
Nah, not until yesterday - I got it because Amazon recommended them if I liked Pulp (which I do a lot). It's funny you mention that about glam era Bowie because right now about all I am listening to have some kind of connection to Bowie: Brian Eno - produced 3 Bowie albums ("Low", "Heroes", "The Lodger") Iggy Pop - Bowie produced "The Idiot" and "Lust for Life" Roxy Music - Eno's band, at least through their 1st 2 albums Pulp - Brit-pop band with heavy Bowie influences Suede - ditto for them as well Hell, even Queen has a connection to him from "Under Pressure", you know the bassline to "Ice Ice Baby" It usually takes me 3 or 4 listens to really decide on how good an album is, and one of those listens will require headphones. However, I liked what I have heard so far from Suede. Now for some reason, I find myself getting back into ambient and electronic music with such acts like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Eno, Steve Roach, and Steve Hillage.
they're awesome. i dont know belle & sebastian. its quite different, but its easy to like them. they're kind of like the arcade fire, in a sense that the songs are very emotional, both words and music.
More stuff: "Timewind" - Klaus Schulze "Discreet Music" - Brian Eno "Another Green World" - Brian Eno "76 14" - Global Communication "Meddle" - Pink Floyd "Blade Runner Soundtrack" - Vangelis "Autobahn" - Kraftwerk "Phaedra" - Tangerine Dream "Substrata" - Biosphere "Sea Biscuit" - Spacetime Continuum Various works by Gyorgy Ligeti Various works by Krzysztof Penderecki
