My first was a boy. I thought it couldn't get any better, and then we had our daughter. I was wrong. :)

I've already made up my mind to let the kids be rough and roam the streets a bit; we'll probably end up in Chicago near her fam but we're going to be moving around the country a bit; you're from new york if I remember correctly?

You're hypocracy at it's finest. How do you choose what to vote on? Where do you get your morals from? I am a citizen of this country and it is my RIGHT to vote for whoever I choose however I choose. I am not a homophobe, call me what you want, they are no different then anyone else in this world... they are sinners, you are a sinner, I am a sinner. I have no problems speaking and interacting with homosexuals and don't think lesser of them for what they do... however, if their beliefs cross the boundries of mine I won't stand by and watch them change something that religious people cherrish... and I have the right to do that and am commanded to do what I can within the confines of the law to change that.

The world is a massive place and you can't appease everyone and I am not going to try and do so. When all is said and done I don't need to answer to anyone but God, and I'm not going to bend my beliefs so I don't offend anyone...

Super, here's probably the legalest and fairest way its going to come down. I'm Catholic, and we're in the wonderful position of it being a sin if we support homosexual acts and a sin if think or feel anything negative towards homosexuals....so the way it will probably pan out is similiar to how I see contraception panning out...something that legally cannot be stopped, something I morally am opposed to but realize that I can't do anything against, something I will pray for an end to....That's pretty much all I can do. Civil unions is the most likely way this will go down, something that is fair, that I will be opposed to but realize that I can't do anything against, and something I will pray for an end to.....with the added benefit of me having to pray not to get all self righteous and treat homosexuals with the respect due to them as people, because sometimes I do lapse and think stupid backwards things, which ain't right and is a sin (in the Catholic Church)....

Some ineffable thing. Don't worry about it. Hey, college is what's expensive. We try not to think about it.

The rest of the crazies that happen to be the massive majority. This is a government of the people, for the people and by the people. I'm sorry, but myself and other religous people aren't going to "not" vote for what they think is morally right and commanded by their beliefs, to do so would be denying their beliefs and their God and that isn't an option. I'm not going to appologize that my faith offends people, to do so would mean the world is dictating my faith, not my God.

Agreed; I'm not going to vote for it either; but I realize that legally speaking there is pretty much nothing I can do about civil unions; Marriage; on the other hand is another topic altogether...

Marriage through the state of through the church? From what I understand the CC doesn't recognize any hetero state marriages anyways. Why do they now care who the state marries when they didn't before?

Svpernaut, would you vote to make premarital sex illegal?

It only offends when it's used as an excuse to persecute minorities.

It also sucks that that "massive majority" tend to be straight ticket voters....something Karl Rove realised early on.

I think you don't understand the history of the institution of marriage. The meaning/definition already has changed over time. Currently, most marriages (in the US certainly) are about love and companionship. "Old school" marriages had nothing to do with that as they were all about finances and social politics.

What you think of as marriage now came out of Victorian England (just in case - that would be circa 1860-70ish) when even then a lot of it was about money.

Talking about the bible...I can go to a Justice of the Peace tomorrow and get married with nary a mention of God and I would be considered married. That would not have been true 500 years ago.

So, again, marriage has been an organic institution, not one carved in biblical stone.

Don't you mean the massively persecuted massive majority?
