    i'm not a athiest, agnostic or a "non-religious" people.

have you ever tried to not believe in god? if so, was it difficult? if you haven't tried then you can't possibly make the above statement with any credibility.

    1. the attachment to what we believe.

    2. yes, you do. you have a set of beliefs on where you are...why you're here..what it means, etc. they may not be formalized. but we all have a worldview...we all think our worldview is correct. for some it's a relgion as defined in the traditional sense. for others its humanism. for others its a "me-ism." and on and on.

I didn't say you were any of those... I have "not believed in God" I wasn't always a Christian... and I can tell you it is much tougher socially living as a Christian then a non-Christian. If you don't believe in a higher being then you don't think there is anyone there to punish or rebuke you for your actions. Everything I do as a Christian is outlined in my beliefs, morals and studies on my religion. Being a non-believer is much easier. If you are a non-believer you also don't have people attacking your belief system, if you believe in nothing there is nothing to attack. The whole "you're going to heaven/hell" argument is moot because you don't even believe in it to begin with.

It still exists largely as a mystery; or as Dickinson says, an uncertain certainty.

The only hostility I ever saw from a Catholic towards a Baptist was when our priest used to tell us, park in the Baptist parking lot across the street when ours gets too full, there's always space there...

God doesn't make my life harder. If you'll notice I said it was tougher socially to be a Christian, my life is far from tough now that I am a Christian. No matter how bad things get I never get stressed or worried because with his love and support there is nothing in this world I can't handle... It is tough to be a Christian, but I could never imagine going back to a life without knowing that I am not alone in and battle that I fight.

My experience has been similar to Meowgi in that I have only heard negativity from protestants about Catholics and not vice versa. I was not raised nor am I now a Catholic, by the way. All my life I have heard friends, family members, and others talk bad about Catholics (and I am not saying all of the time, just that it has been consistent). My personal favorite is that they are not even Christian.

Of course, both sides have historically been pretty mean to each other. St. Batholomew's Day Massacre is an example of Catholics being mean.

People are mean. To tie into the hangout thread...people are people.

It's tough being a Christian?? My Mom has a very wonderful life, and she's Christian. Of course, she's a Methodist. Does that make a difference?

(I didn't know Christians were persecuted in this country... did I miss it?)

    per·se·cute
    1. To oppress or harass with ill-treatment, especially because of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or beliefs.
    2. To annoy persistently; bother.

Hell, all of that happens RIGHT HERE on these very forums... People are constantly bashing our belief system and us. I'm not going to pretend that i know how it feels to be a muslim in this country, and you shouldn't pretend you know how it feels to be a Christian in this country. In many ways it is tougher being a Christian because of the persecution "our God" and Savior receive. If you'll notice many of the posts in this very forum openly bash the Christian belief system yet people VERY rarely openly bash other religion's god(s) because it has become "taboo."

Whatever. I grew up in a very Christian family in America. Persecuted is the last thing I felt. You are ridiculous.
