SBC DSL sucked ass for the time I had it. It's a bit cheaper, but they lock you into a contract and the speed is nowehere close to what I'm getting with cable. This was at two different places so I don't think it was just a case of where I lived. I dropped them the day my contract was up and never looked back. I'd love to get rid of their phone service as well, but I need the line to occasionally hook up to my Tivo for updates. Anyone know a way around this?
ok, ok... I give up. But somehow in a competition between the cable company and the phone company, I think we're all getting screwed!
VOIP, thats the only reason why I think I would get Vonage with Roadrunner because my dish receivers need to be plugged into a phone line. Plus it wouldnt hurt to have a phone at home. $25 a month isnt anything like that bull**** that SBC is charging.
Thanks for posting this! I currently have the express dsl which I pay 24 bucks a month for. So I called them up and they didnt give me this exact promo, but I was able to upgrade to the pro speed for slightly more than I pay now. Roughly 50cents more. Made my day, man!
Not necessarily because like your article you posted said. SBC is tryin to come up with nake DSL which will get rid of the mandatory phone service. So if they pick up VOIP with that. Then they will lower prices to attract us cable users back to them. And in the end, we save money. But if your right. This whole debate was for nothing cuz were gettin screwed anyway.
Cool, I will probably be signing up with Lingo pretty soon since Vonage doesn't have it in my area. One more thing I have to know before it is a sure things is the disadvantages of VOIP.
I'll have to look into Vonage. Right now my phone with SBC just has call waiting and caller id. After all the BS fees and taxes it comes out to about $43/month. I wonder if Vonage would be about the same price after all of the little fees?
The only one that i can think off the top of my head is that when your power goes out. Your phone line doesnt. But since your cable modem is plugged into the wall. When lights go out so does your phone. But thats what you got cell phones for. Also if cable modem goes out so does the phone. But ive never had either happen to me so far. So i still think its good. **ALSO MAKE SURE YOU ACTIVATE YOUR 911 DIALING**. You have to do this online. Real quick. Takes 5 sec. But I have actually heard of someone that got robbed and couldnt call 911 cuz theynever activated it. Also it might take them a while to transfer your number to their service.
Jeff.. would you say this package is worth it? Right now i'm getting cable + roadrunner seperately for around 85 bucks a month.. is it digital cable? what are the advantages of digital phone service?
Vonage, Lingo, and the VOIPs only charge a small tax along w/ the monthly fee. I'm w/ Lingo and my monthly fee is $19.99/month. Total is $22 and change. It's freaking great!
I have Verizon DSL, and pay like $29.99 a month. I'm not going to get DSL again when I move next month though, because we won't need a phone line in the house. (only use cells) I guess (damnit....to hell) Cox cable (internet) is what I am going to get.
No they do have fax. Some companies have special plans called fax plans that have only 500 minutes. I dont think your alarm system is plugged in directly to your phone line. Just uses the same hardware to get the signal.
