I understand how the Mr. Stokke feels, I can only imagine the same thing happening to my niece and how I'd feel about that; however, he needs to understand that while a lot of us are pervs out here on the internets, these things die down. I'm pretty sure the best way for it to pick up steam would be to go to the national media complaining about it.

 

I like the way she confidently has a firm yet gentle grasp of that pole ...

This chick's very pretty and fit but too young and innocent looking for my tastes, and her parents are right to be protective. Once there's a little bit more maturation to her though and she's on her own she's REALLY gonna be banging. If she somehow lasts through the current fad and makes the Olympics itll only get "worse" for her. I'll be paying more attention then

The best way to avoid unwanted publicity and attention is to do a lot of PR work to get your message out.

Eight pages on this chick? What kills me is the criticism of her looks. The girl is 18, has a better figure than most of the women the vast majority here have ever gone out with, seems to be very intelligent, is good looking, by any measure, and I keep seeing folks nit-pick every little bit of her. She's 18!

Not as good looking as the 18 year old babe I had an affair with in the Netherlands by a long shot, but still...

 

We want our girls to look like Lindsay Lohan.

Oh, I just remember being 18, and dating 18 year old chicks, and all the crazy stuff that went on back then. Several decades later, here we have the internet and an 18 year old pole vaulter, who's very attractive for a pole vaulter, without a doubt, who gets her image on the Net, and the next thing you know she's a "one week wonder," if not longer. I just find that very strange. Must be my age.

Think about it. You're 18, doing your thing, when suddenly, through no fault of your own, hundreds of thousands of people are examining you through a microscope, looking for any flaw, any image that isn't out there yet. It's rather creepy, in my opinion. When I was 18, a lot of things could happen to you, but something like this? It just makes me wonder. I've gone to some length to stay "private" here, to the point of not exchanging e-mails with people I really like and admire, simply out of caution.

When I was a teenager, I was really into taking photographs. I had a really nice SLR, a Canon, and had bought a Nikon by the time I was 20. I took a zillion photographs. Some of them would make the one that got this chick "famous" look like chopped liver. (yes, it sounds like my ego talking, but I was really into it, developing my own stuff, and regularly taking hundreds of shots, including many of girlfriends that I developed, without having to worry about who saw them, if you know what I mean) Some of the members here are into it like I used to be, like Sam, for instance, who's a superb photographer.

I don't know... something like this makes you think about just how private your life is these days. Not very. What happened to this young girl, this 18 year old, could happen to one of us, in one form or another. It just gives me pause. Certainly, my comment wasn't meant to be something aimed at you in particular, just at the "happening" going on with this girl. Pretty weird, from where I sit, and I'm probably as guilty as anyone for being interested. Freaky.

 

My point in my examination was not to demean the girl but to say how senseless this really is. Nobody on this board has a shot with her yet there are thousands of women who look better than her that they don't have a shot at either. Why gawk at her? She is fit and cute, no doubt, but she is not all that. I've seen hundreds of other real, normal, and/or celebrity women that look and are shaped better than her. I'm not saying she is a dog but the attention is unwarranted and unwanted, focus it on something else.
