Hey I was witness to Sir Charles getting slapped by a woman after he raised up her skirt in a dance club (club Revere i think). ------------------
I saw Matt Maloney at Memorial City Mall, the people at the now closed sports store told me that he bought his videogames at KB Toys. I walked up and got an autograph, its easier when your taller than them. My uncle works at a bar and got Charles Barkley once, Robert Reid is a regular. I met Carl Herrera at the charity basketball game a few years back, it took me a while to realize who he was. A friend who worked a Papadeux's saw Cato and Robert Ferguson (drafted by Green Bay), another friend met Eddie Johnson at the galleria. Calvin Murphy was seen by two friends at a high school basketball game. Hmm, I think thats it excluding the times I met players at signings. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
OH yeah this reminds me, when I was a student at UH i worked security at Rodney Hamptons 1st Annual Celebrity Basketball Game at Hofhienz...meet Kenny Smith, Robert Horry, a few other bball players as well as some football players...oh yeah almost forgot saw TLC there as well as other singers/rappers... ------------------
SA Rocket, that's funny that you ask that. A couple of years back my brother ran into Rudy at SRO and yes it was obvious that he'd had 1, 2, ok maybe 8 or 9 cocktails. And it was in the bathroom ( enough said ). My brother asked him who he thought would be a nice addition to the Rocks roster. Rudy went on and on about Van Horn and how bad he would like to aquire him. Of course, this was before Van Horns dissapearance. He said Rudy seemed like a really nice guy. They talked for a little while about the game and it all went down in the mens room. ------------------ Dreams, are what teams are made of.
Can I get in on the name dropping? I run the charity golf tournaments at a local Country Club. We generally have more football players than basketball players, more retired than active players but still, sports celebrities. 99% of them are great guys; they want no special treatment and readily mix with the crowds. In fact the a-hole I can remember off the top of my head was Golfer Blaine McAllister. Some of the ex-oilers though must be scheduled to play as celebrities every Monday cause sometimes they don't show up. The funniest thing I ever saw though was Charles Barkley taking a golf lesson from our former pro. He could make a great practce swing, smooth as silk. But every time you put a ball down in front of him he ended up making that ugly, ugly double-clutch on the way down swing with a little dance step at the end; just couldn't hit it. And then, he would want to go out and play the pro for money! $100 one downs getting 1 stroke a hole. He would trash talk all the way around the course and end up losing $1000. Priceless. ------------------ He's very popular, Ed. Sportos, Motorheads, Geeks, Sluts, Pinheads, Dweebies,Wonkers, Richies, they all adore him. I saw Matt Maloney at the Bronx Bar in the Rice Village one night. I also saw Hakeem on the Rice campus quite a bit. He was taking an Arabic class there one semester and would show up at 3:00pm every Tuesday and Thursday. I timed my schedule so that the "coincidental" run in would take place on the sidewalk in front of the building each week. ------------------ My Kroger card should say "Signature" on it, because that's the grocery store I shop at. I felt slighted, because the store is of a higher quality than the *regular* Kroger. So that's why I penciled in "Signature" on the front and back of my card.
I have had normal conversations with Matt Maloney, Otis Thorpe, Sleepy Floyd, Jim Peterson, Lou LLoyd, and Scotty Brooks. (Maybe not exactly current players)Usually in the context of golf but normal conversation. They are just people like anyone else, I don't think they get hounded like they were Tiger or MJ. In the last year I have had to ask Ken Griffy Sr. and Super Bowl MVP Doug Williams to 'please don't drive your cart so close to the greens'. By the way they both responed politely. So if you see someone famous out in public I would say it's always OK to say hello (everyone likes having there ego stroked) Just don't act like a star struck sycophant, don't cause them undo delay in what they are doing and (this might be controversial)if you are over 12 years old, don't ask for their freaking autograph. Most of the people I see posting on this board are pretty sharp.Chances are, everybody out there is more well versed in some subject of interest than your local sports star. They might just be interested in talking to you. ------------------ He's very popular, Ed. Sportos, Motorheads, geeks, sluts, pinheads, dweebies, wonkers, richies, they all adore him.
Did it strike anybody else that Jeff had the only normal conversation with one of the Rockets? ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
