Before the economy tanked you could find 5% in a CD if you shopped around. If you are interested in doing one I suggest you shop around. Especially look at online banks and local Credit Unions for the best possible rates. To give you some perspective, the CD rates at my CU are 1.15 - 2.75% depending on if you want 6 months - 5 years.
