I never thought about that but you're right. Parnell has a very dry delivery and he plays a great straight man. Sort of like Chevy Chase in Vacation. I'll bet he would do a good job. Frankly, I don't think they use him enough as it is. Weekend Update has been horrible for a while now. It started with Jimmy Fallon taking over and breaking character and doing the whole "I can't stop laughing" schtick. Now Poeler and Fey do nothing but laugh at their own lame jokes. Parnell would be better.
I like them, but they are definately practicing a completely different method when you look at the previous WU anchors. I would like to see the next person or people go back to the "serious" approach where they actually treat the anchor spot as another character they play and not just being themselves.
