link Sarunas Jasikevicius, widely considered the top point guard in Europe, signed a three-year, 12 million deal with the Pacers, his agent Doug Neusted told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.
Yea, you're probably right. I know Tinsley seems to be in and out of the doghouse all the time there and I didn't know in what capacity (starter or backup) they were signing Sarunas.
They may think Tinsley will be too expensive to resign next year, so they got Sarunas. Now they have 2 good pg, but no good sg. Try offering them either James or Wesley.
Kind of what I was thinking. There are other backup PGs that make around that much (hell, Mike James makes almost $3.5) but, outside of Tinsley's injuries, they were semi-fine at the point and they played well when Tinsley was out. But, they still made this a priority enough to make this their first free agency move and give him that type of money for not ever playing in the league before. It just seems a little suspicious to me. Granted, now they have a nice two-man rotation at the position, but are paying a good amount to do so.
they are paying about $9 mil between the two next year. We are paying way more than $10 mil on 1 postion and we aren't ready. on backcourt, We have depth but no quality. Pacers have quality but no depth. A trade could be beneficial to both teams.
1.) They already resigned Tinsley to a 6 year contract extension. 2.) They have "2 good pg, but no good sg" so you offer them either an undersized 2 guard or another point guard. It is a pretty confusing move, because now they have 3 PGs signed mid-long term. In addition to Tinsley, they've had Anthony Johnson, who's one of the better backup PGs in the league.
When did they resign Tinsley? I thought his contract runs out next summer. Wesley is better than any sg they have now. James is more like a sg than a pg.
They signed Tinsley to a 6 year, $39 million deal before last season started. Wesley isn't better than Stephen Jackson, who figures to be the Pacer's starting SG with Artest coming back next year.
$4M per year for a 30-year old rookie? No thanks. Sarunas dominated the Euro league w/o doubt, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna be able to come in and dominate in the NBA.
Must we forget Antoine Rigaudeau? Best player in France gets signed by the Mavs to a three year deal and ends up being one of the worst players ever.

Hoopshype doesn't show the contract when they don't know the amount. As you can see on T-Mac & Tinsley the future years are blank. If there were zeros then that would mean no contract.
Steven Jackson will start at SG. He played the 3 last year, but Ron Artest is back at the 3. If Danny Granger is as good as advertised and Bender is at least a little healthy, Jackson will not need to play a single minute at SG. Slam dunk champ Fred Jones is an undersized but capable backup 2. He improved his shot tremendously last year until a late-season shoulder injury. This move was prompted by Anthony Johnson's difficulties in handling pressure D and Tinsley's tendency to get injured. The Pistons really rattle AJ and disrupt the Pacer's offense. Tinsley isn't going anywhere. You can have AJ and Eddie Gill for a bag of chips, however. AJ has become a good clutch shooter and a physical defender, but he is too slow and doesn't run an offense well.
