yeah, instead of tuna. that can you showed will work just fine. just dice some onions celery, garlic, whatever you would put in a tuna salad, mix in a little mayo etc. put it on your favorite bread with some tomato slices. very easy, very tasty.
The article that Fatty posted said something about premium or high quality sardines. How do you know if this is what you're buying?
My tuna is usually basic, due mainly to time constraints; tuna, mayo, relish, egg white. But it makes sense that it would taste better with sardines, since they have more flavor. I'm pretty pumped about trying this out.
I took Fatty's advice and bought a can at the store yesterday for 90 cents. I bought the ones that were in hot sauce. They were not horribly inedible but their fishy taste was a little too strong for my liking. I'm going to have to officially say nay.
Yeah, it actually wasn't too bad and if I can ever get over the intense fishyness of the things then I might end up enjoying them one day. That same thing happened with sushi and I love me some sushi now!
I tried it once, it's ok. I find the texture a little off-putting for some reason. But I'll give it another go after reading this. Maybe eating it with crackers will help. BTW, has anyone seen that episode of No Reservations when Tony goes to Spain? They have this one restaurant/bar that sells $100+ tins of various seafood. Supposedly the methods and ingredients they use to package them make them better w/ time. They look crazy good.
Lately I've been eating these a lot since they have them at Costco: A new twist I've added that I really like is putting dijon mustard on the cracker, along with the piece of fish. I suppose it might taste similar to the sardines that are packed in mustard, but I've never tried those before. I'm sure any kind of sauce would work actually but this is what I'm going with for now. Sorry, didn't feel like starting another sardine thread for this.
If I'm going to eat sardines, it has to be the one from the Philippines covered in tomato sauce. If not, no thank you.
Hate to derail, but what was the deal with these guys? Were they supposed to be crackheads or something?
sardines and anchovies are in the same category and I love both. You do need to try some pizza with the anchovies if you havent done so yet. Sardines are good with salad as well. To eat sardines straight up on its own is a bit silly. Mix it with some other things and perhaps some kind of bread to compliment it. recommend you add some character to your salad. goat cheese is another one that deserves its own thread btw.
At one time one of the most bad ass tag teams in 80's pro wrestling then they went to the wwf and became as the saying goes a picture can say a thousand world.
