Uh... I don't think she was hyperventilating at all, that was just normal breathing getting picked up by the mic more than usual. That seemed like normal Sarah Palin, and relative to the other speeches and interviews I have seen her give there was nothing out of the ordinary or incoherent about it. I mean, it was incoherent and rambling, but that's how she always talks. She seemed to have a firm message, she's just different and doesn't seem to want to or care to explain her actions for our point of view. If she was watching herself I'm sure she'd say, "yup, makes perfect sense." I'm sure there will be some fans of hers who say the same thing because they think the same way. I guess I'm just saying that the press conference didn't seem strange if you go into it expecting normal Sarah Palin.
I guess he'll have to pull the posters down from his bedroom wall and change the desktop on his computer. His pinup girl is in trouble.
Why tear them down? She's tossed away her shackles of governorship and has moved onto the national stage! Basso's pre-ordered both the Plumber man and her book as manifestos to 2012.
Unabridged (she starts off breathing better than the later clips): Part 1: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vqC1afO3Uo4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vqC1afO3Uo4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Part 2: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9f9YQMbQMn0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9f9YQMbQMn0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Her breathing did become more pronounced, but some emotion is to be expected in a resignation. (Compared to Duke Cunningham, she did pretty well.) Now we just have to wait to find out why she actually quit.
I just watched it again. Anybody who says that is the "normal" Sarah Palin needs to watch a 2nd time. She rambled, repeated herself multiple times and didn't know when to take a breath. She was flustered and out of control. You would expect this during an interview, but not in a prepared speech she's been planning for a while. I also have the impression some ethics bomb is about to drop on her. She laid the groundwork for that expectation in the beginning of her speech.
Even basso has to be disgusted by this, unless he's more delusional than I thought. We'll see if he has the guts to post something substantial on this. If this was a Dem, basso would have started the thread. The columnists who have written about this move prepping Palin for a 2012 presidential run are wacko. How can a person with any knowledge of how national politics works actually believe that? She's impaled herself and proven she isn't ready for the big stage. What Palin does to stay relevant besides her book deal remains to be seen, but higher elective office is out of the picture.
nah , if anything, qutting is another strike against her, now opponents will just say she's a quitter, she quit on her state , how can we trust her with the country
I only watched the seven minute clip posted earlier (which appears to be the last seven minutes?) and the rambling and repeating didn't seem out of the ordinary. I don't really have the time, or maybe it's the patience I lack, to listen to the other 12 minutes. Still, I didn't get the impression she was reading a speech, but instead was speaking more off the cuff based on some talking points she wanted to follow. And if that's what she was doing, then that's what I'd expect her to sound like normally. I wouldn't expect her fans to have much bad to say about this because it fits right in with the way she (and they) think.
It was not really a prepared speech, I think she just had some talking points she wanted to get out. Not a teleprompter kind of ordeal. What makes you think she has been planning this for a while? I mean really your ideas directly conflict. If it is a bomb about to drop, it would not be planned for a while. I think she was just more effected by the attacks on her than people gave her credit for.
Rumor of a Federal indictment for receiving kickbacks to build her personal house from the folks who built the Wasilla Sports Complex. I thought it was too strange when I first heard about it during the campaign... Todd and some "contractor buddies" just happened to build a 3500 sf house that has the same building materials as the sports complex and one of the builders was involved in the Senator Stevens cabin fiasco.
Wow, it sounds like she is on her first PADI check out dive and she just realized she's terrified of being under water. I'm surprised some of those reporters didn't suffocate -- Palin sucked all of the air out of about a 40 square foot area surrounding that microphone.
Well as someone who views himself as a Republican, I'm doing a giant happy dance. Hopefully she just resigns due to a thin skin, as that will definitely show that she's incompetent and needs to get out of the GOP and politics in general. Unfortunately, my brain is telling me that this reeks of an imminent scandal - after she announces this on a Friday on the July 4th weekend, when no one is paying attention to news in general. And that would suck as having a scandal for her occur right after Sanford would be a major blow to what credibility the party has left. Ah well. I'm thinking too hard, and should just do a happy dance.
This is speculation, but I'm with the posters hinting that a corruption probe has been in the works and that indictments are coming. No other explanation makes sense. I don't think that she would abandon her political career to become a TV commentator and talk show host--her main options in public life at this point--unless she were insane, which I don't think she is.
Listen to the speech. Palin own words: "This decision has been in the works for a while". Personally, I think she was lying through her teeth. Even with this just being talking points, I think Palin was pretty bad, even for her. There were no questions, the audience was easy and she had no reason to be so flustered. Kojirou, I don't blame you for the happy dance. The country needs your national party to become, well, national again and be more representative of mainstream America instead of being hostage to the hard-right kooks.
