But when the communist dictator Xi comes to visit, then...it still doesn't solve the problem, it still just pushes it down the road. But then they do it.

Chicago has forced out the homeless when world leaders have visited. Every major city around the globe does it.

They did it because a prominent world leader is coming to visit, every major city around the globe does it.

They will let the homeless comeback after he leaves....

Is it hypocritical? Yeah I suppose so - but I will say, as someone that is really involved in the homeless situation in the USA, San Francisco and Los Angeles do more for the homeless than any other major cities in the USA outside of maybe NYC.

There is a difference between an area not having a homeless problem because they successfully deal with the issue and one not having them because the police and politicians push them out.

I am a big supporter of helping the homeless and what we call the effectively homeless (those living with friends or in cars).

Someone will come into San Francisco, they will not solve the homeless problem, but they will push them out of the city or state and they will be well liked because there will not be tents on the sidewalk - and I can understand people not wanting to see it - but that won't fix the problem.

If we want to fix the problem we need to radically restrict the ability for organizations and people to own multiple homes.

I don't agree with this. There is plenty of space to build more homes. Communism is not the answer.

Restricting or increasing the tax amount for owning multiple homes isn't communism.

The realistic ability to own a home is something that has historically made the USA so successful.

It's not realistic to create homes in San Francisco due to cost and land lock. If you can't afford to live there and pay rent, don't live there.
This is the same with the homeless people, however they get lots of services to allow them to stay homeless and never leave.

For example, we might want to live in Beverly Hills, but we can't because of obvious financial situations and limited housing.
However if you are homeless, you can live there

you see the irony of all of this?

if you can't afford one city, you need to leave and find one you can afford. you shouldn't be able to pitch a tent and get free services.
while there are people who truly cannot find employment or are not physically capable of work, there are many who choose to be homeless and choose to do drugs .

A person who cannot afford rent in San Francisco or New York City, usually lives far away and travels by train or car for an hour to get to work and back.
they can't afford the rent to live in those cities.

that's the point of having other cities.

First - there is a way to open up housing in San Francisco, but the local property owners in San Francisco hold a tremendous amount of power and will never allow it to happen. It is almost impossible to get housing approval in San Francisco because of local restrictions put in place to protect existing property owners. These property owners tend to be white or Asian and Democrats FWIW.

So the issue in San Francisco with housing is on purpose.

Second, the majority of homeless in San Francisco and Los Angeles are there because of the government assistant resources and because they are not kicked out by the local government. If they were treated hostile, many of them would leave.

There are a lot of issues in the United States that are not being addressed by either political party, and affordable housing and living is at the top of the list.

I agree, there are homeless people everywhere in America, however, California has the majority of homeless population.
A property owner does not want a homeless shelter or housing next to their property because it lowers their value and is usually not safe.

There's not a clear solution, but there should be much better laws to keep the city clean and safe for all those people who actually pay rent and taxes.

Most homeowners do not want homeless people close to them - but California is a little different, in that there is a lot of laws and political pressure to not come down hard on the homeless as well. If the Democrats lose the state, it will be over this IMO. Even democrats eventually will grow tired of being surrounded by homeless drug users and will overlook the fact that the homeless are forced out.

I don't get why this is such an outrage or a surprise.

Every single nation pushes out the homeless and drug dealers when important international leaders are in town.

China is the second most powerful nation in the world right now.

The homeless will return when the event is over - and until Californians elect people that will turn the hoses on the homeless and push them into another state that leaves them alone.

It's because San Francisco is the James Harden of not caring about the city or team.
If you want to do take a trip to the Bay, I can send you to places where you can compare and contrast to other cities.

I'll recommend some good restaurants too.

I did a 'hood tour' of LA because a friend wanted me to see it. It was a NWA mixtape except you don't make eye contact with people on the street. I understood it in more detail after the tour.

    whither San Francisco, doe?

Dining out plateaus post-pandemic in America’s downtowns, but some cities thrive
As many consumers continue working from home at least part time, demand at restaurants in downtown areas is stabilizing. Square analyzed the hourly share of card-present transactions at food and drink establishments in the United States from 2019 through September 2023. Compared to January 2019, downtown neighborhoods in American cities appear to have flatlined at roughly 72% of their pre-pandemic activity as of the end of September 2023.

While dining and going out has not fully returned to pre-pandemic levels across all cities, a few downtowns nationwide are thriving. When looking at the top 15 metropolitan areas in the country, Detroit has seen major growth in food and beverage transactions with a 75% increase since 2019, followed by Los Angeles and Miami (increasing 18% and 17%, respectively). Other cities that are at or nearly back to 2019 levels of dining activity include Boston (up 2%) and Phoenix (down 8%).
