probably wanted a longer deal from them...Houston used that to sign him as a rental, give him an opportunity to play his but off and raise his stock, cash in this summer.
So you would get season tickets if we were a lottery team? I'm not talking about after we get a player like of Perry Jones' caliber. I'm talking about this season. Will you go to the games, buy $8 glasses of beer, $10-$15 mixed drinks, expensive food, Rockets gear? This isn't the Texans we're talking about. The stadium will be empty if the Rockets tank.
Essentially a taller Chuck Hayes, costs a tad more...... Nah.....Chucks drops his ass more.....
when you put it that way , it seems like a lot of time. But its only 15 minutes a game. That kinda time can only get you so far, even if you're Kobe Bryant. Why can't the Rockets just start our rookies and see how it goes from there?
Breaking News: David Stern vetoes the Rockets' signing of Samuel Dalembert. Stern: "I was just acting in the best interests of the Houston Rockets." ...I wish. How long has it been since I've really, unequivocably, been completely opposed to a large-scale move made by our front office? Late round draft picks don't count. I think I really have to go back to the Shane Battier trade...man I don't know what to think of Morey anymore.
This is a clear example of big picture vs the right now. If you could care less about what the Rockets look like a year from now then this is move should make you ecstatic. They will probably win 35-38 games and be a playoff team. If you care about if the team can win a title within 5 years then this move stinks. You lose out on a potential top 10 pick and probably get bounced in the first rd with no shot at getting measurable better over the longterm.
courtesy of http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showthread.php?38055-Scouting-Report-Samu Scouting Report: Samuel Dalembert Samuel Dalembert Position: C/PF Hgt: 6'11" Wgt: 250 Age: 30 Number: 10 Nickname: N/A College: Seton Hall Yrs with Team: 1 Yrs in League: 9 Previous Teams: Philadelphia ('01-'10) How Acquired: trade for Spencer Hawes and Andres Nocioni (Jun '10) Contract: 2010-11: $12.2mil Strengths: rebounding, shot blocking, athleticism Weaknesses: offense, decisonmaking Offense (Scoring & Passing) Has never developed a sophisticated game on this end of the floor. Does the most damage as a garbageman. Uses his athleticism and leaping ability to finish strong around the hoop when set up by teammates. Frequent alley oop target, and runs the floor easily for slam dunk finishes. Mechanical post game featuring an awkward turnaround and a half hook, but has stretches where he gets hot and can be potent. Has a facing jumper as well that is not pretty but will occassionally go in. Has often been accused of not knowing his limitations on this side of the ball, and forcing too many low percentage shots, whether he is hot or not. With a prior reputation as a blackhole surprised by showing himself a capable passer from the high post last season. Defense & Rebounding Both areas of specialty for Dalembert. Uses his great length to be one of the top shotblockers in the NBA. Very athletic for a center and able to guard guys away from the rim. Can sometimes be overpowered by the strongest centers, but mobility allows him to guard many PFs. Is often accused of not being a smart defender, gambling and picking up numerous goaltends along with his blocks, but was quite effective last year as a man defender against some of the league's best offensive bigs. Always amongst the league's best per minute rebounders, and can get in a rhythm on the glass and have some huge boarding games. Uses athleticism to pound the offensive glass and finish inside, but strong on both ends. Intangibles Generally laid back, and a good guy who won the NBA Citizenship Award in 2010 for his charitable efforts for his native Haiti after the devastating earthquake there in January 2010. And yet rarely seems entirely happy with his role, and is always seeking more offensive opportunties. Very durable player who was slowed by injury for the first time in years at the beginning of last season. Without Martin and Scola the Rockets are better than the Jazz, Kings, Warriors, Hornets and Maybe Suns and Timberwolves. Also you never know about the Clippers they seem to find ways to be bad.
Marc Stein: Dalembert CONT' ... 2012-13 is $6.7 million at Rockets' option w/buyout of $1.5 million if Houston elects to let him return to free agency Even better: only 6,7 million this season
Yah...but there are times when winning championships and selling tickets can't go under one roof. I actually think in a 20 year time span Les would have 2 more championships depending on his decision making.
He is a very good post defender and a solid shot blocker. Having someone like that helps Scola because he can be the help defender that helps Luis. Lets face it Scola is a pathetic defender and needs all the help he can get. Dalembert/ Hill Center rotation is a pretty good combo. Both are terrefic fdefenders and good rebounders.
I feel sorry for the Kings fans especially going through their forums. They are depressed and think the reason Dalembert left was to go to a better "destination". Funny, never thought Houston as a "destination" for FA. I would have thought Sacramento > Houston since Sac is in Cali and close to LA.
